AM friend Akino Kondoh has just been announced as one of the artists making “the Shortlist“ for the Guggenheim’s first annual Youtube Play: a Biennial of Creative Video. Wittled down from over 23,000 videos in over 91 countries, Akino will be one of 125 finalists to go before a panel of distinguished judges including Takashi Murakami, Marilyn Minter and Ryan McGinley. The panel will have one month to pick the 20 videos to be presented at the Biennial on October 21st.
Murakami could be making it to the Biennial’s opening celebration at the Guggenheim in New York. Superflat fans may remember our coverage of Murakami’s retrospective at the Guggenheim Bilbao a few years back. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that this “digest” version of Akino’s “Ladybirds Requiem” makes it into the Biennial come October.
