“I love this stuff (art)! It’s like being pornstar when you’re a porn addict!” – Ron English.
A few weeks ago we brought you the opening of Ron English’s first UK solo, “Lazarus Rising.” Now AM brings you an exclusive behind the scenes look at this spectacular show from Ron’s Popaganda headquarters in Jersey City. A week before Ron was about to ship this stunning body of work to London, we were invited to his studio where we got to see the various techniques and mediums the pop master utilizes in his craft.
From canvas to animation, sculptures to silkscreens and portraits to multimedia collages, it seems Mr. English has a different artistic angle on each of his unique subjects. As evidenced by his use of pop icons Charlie Brown, Britney Spears, Marilyn Monroe, Frankenstein, Obama and Mickey Mouse, nothing is off limits for his creative and witty artistic puns. His mastery of many styles and mediums allow him to create a diverse price range that tries to put as much art into the hands of fans as possible (a la Andy Warhol). Ron describes, “This also allows me from getting bored… I have so many different projects and styles I can do that I usually can’t wait to get back to the studio the next morning!”
More after the jump…
It was truly refreshing to visit the studio and experience Ron’s non-stop passion and enthusiasm over this latest body of work. If you’re in the London area, please do yourself a favor and check out the show at Elms Lester which runs until June 6th.
