Preview: Yumiko Kayukawa – “Coming Home” @ Roq La Rue

Tonight at Roq La Rue, Japanese artist Yumiko Kayukawa will be introducing a new body of work in her home city entitled Coming Home, which will also be her first solo at the gallery since 2002. The Seattle-based painter has been working to expand her narrative since her show in San Francisco in March (covered) and continues her fascination with her female protagonists and their animal friends presented in complex compositions. This morning, AM was invited for the unveil of a new collaborative piece between graffiti artists Risk and Retna (featured). Back in June, we brought you photos of the medusa head that Blu painted for the CityLeaks Festival in Germany. Now pictures have surfaced of the beautiful new mural that the Brazilian street surrealist Ethos gifted Cologne for his part of the event. A couple of weeks ago, AM paid a visit to Mark Whalen aka Kill Pixie’s studio as he was putting the final touches on his latest collection which will debut this coming weekend at the Merry Karnowksy Gallery. Kid Zoom, whom we last caught up with at his New York solo show, was recently featured in a video by Kingbrown Magazine. The detailed footage captures his can control and skills with spray paint quite well and will give you an idea of what to expect for the Young & Free show opening in San Francisco on September 10th at the 941 Geary. Teaser / Streets: WK Interact – “Project Brave”

To commemorate the 10th Anniversary of 9/11, WK Interact will be collaborating with New York City firefighters on Project Brave, a mural that will be located on Kent Avenue (between North 4th & North 5th Streets). Featuring his signature in-motion creations, the large 328 foot mural will feature iconic imagery from the tragic attack and will be on view from September 11 – October 11. Discuss WK Interact here.
