Openings: “Made In Polaroid” @ Phillips de Pury

AM recently attended the star studded charity art show Made In Polaroid held at Phillips de Pury. The benefit was a one night auction that featured 50 works created by the 50-50-50 project using Polaroid’s mobile printer. All proceeds went to support Free Arts NYC. After the pulling the cover off of a controversial collaborative mural with fellow graffiti artist Risk a couple weeks back, Retna (featured) bounced down to Miami last week to get a leg up on his fellow artists for this year’s Wynwood Walls. Over the weekend, Subliminal Projects brought in a power trio of graffiti legends in their show titled Three Kings. Featuring the work of Fab 5 Freddy, Futura 2000 and Lee Quinones, the show brought in writers who each have a different and unique style. Having these personalities under one space brought in fans of the artwork as well as those who wanted to finally meet the street luminaries. Still showing through the rest of the week until the 24th is the FriendsWithYou exhibition in Paris. In The Beginning at colette features the Miami design collective’s bronze sculptures, series of prints including two exclusive to the store, an animation video piece, wall murals, as well as a plethora of art products. FWY also designed the storefront and the “water bar” space of the gallery, all based on the theme of expressing the inner-child inside all of us. More photos after the jump…

On October 22nd, the Corey Helford Gallery will be presenting Ray Caesar’s first solo show that we will attend since the beginning of the year in New York. Entitled A Dangerous Inclination, the new body of work will again feature the Toronto-based artist’s unique process of setting up 3D environments with his surrealistic imagery and then producing limited editions and one-offs from selected angles. On Sunday night, the New Image Gallery debuted their new location with new artwork by the somewhat anonymous figure Neck Face (interviewed) and also the work by an artist simply known as Fuck This Life. Named 2 of Amerika’s Most Wanted, the show featured a variety of drawings by Neck Face that focused on the grotesque, the violent and the ironic. Over the weekend, the Known Gallery hosted the show entitled New Mathematics. Featuring the work of New York graffiti legend Eric Haze, the exhibition centered around a collection of artwork filled with geometric lines and patterns which give way to both abstract shapes and an aura of cubism. The show featured over 35 different paintings that were carefully detailed against a variety of black, white and gray canvases. Ranging in different sizes, each piece featured interesting and unique designs which can easily engulf the viewer. […]
