During this past Labor Day weekend, AM had the privilege to visit Yoskay Yamamoto’s (interviewed) studio as he prepares to present his forth solo exhibition at LeBasse Projects Culver City location. The show titled Picking Up Where We Left Off opening on September 10th will feature paintings as well as sculptures that attempt to touch on both his Japanese heritage and his time living in the United States. This latest exhibit continues to highlight his style which often focuses on the face as a way to explore human emotions and moments of self-reflection.

Although not quite completed yet, the sculptures that were on display during the visit already touch upon this theme of reflection and emotional resonance. The paintings will also focus on this theme as well as feature his use of geometric shapes and multi-layered landscapes. As noted during the visit, Yoskay has been working diligently in order to deliver his best work up to date and it’s clear that those who have been following his artistic career will not be disappointed.
