Over the weekend, the Known Gallery exhibited the work of artist Sage Vaughn (featured) in an exhibit titled Last Year. The first solo showing for the UK-based artist at the gallery featured a collection of large woven editions based on his paintings and on his collages from his Envelope Series. While working with a different type of material, Vaughn still managed to infuse his ironic take on popular culture. Whether it was images referencing the late 70s to early 80s or his use of animals to satirize pop culture iconography, the artist made sure to bring forth a body of work which explores a disconnect between the natural surroundings and an evolving civilization. The gallery included both the large woven tapestries, a collection of work from his Envelope Series which referenced the work hanging on the walls, and objects seemingly made out of wood which once again touched upon the theme of nature.
