Rumor Mill: David Choe – The 200 Million Dollar Artist?

So, you may remember the internet frenzy last month when photos leaked of David Choe (featured) painting and tagging up a storm at the new Facebook headquarters at the request of Mark Zuckerberg. Phlegm – “Civilisation” Print

UK-based street muralist Phlegm has really outdone himself this time. Using his intricate drawing skills, he has created a three part piece that when combined features an entire world on the shoulders of one his characters. Mike Kelley 1954 – 2012

In what may be the saddest and most shocking art world news in years, it was discovered today that Mike Kelley has died, reportedly from taking his own life. The passing has been confirmed by both Metro Pictures and Gagosian Gallery. Metro Pictures’ Helene Winer revealed that Kelley had been depressed. One of the most original, respected, and accomplished talents of his generation, the Detroit-born, Los Angeles-based, and internationally-known artist was preparing to exhibit in his unheard of eighth Whitney Biennial. Last week in Texas, the International Museum of Art and Science hosted a selection of fiberglass and silicone creations from Colin Christian (interviewed). Made up of a series of his signature cyber-erotic sculptures, Fast Forward features a body of work inspired by the Colin’s love for “sci-fi movies, pinup girls, anime, ambient electronic music, and author, H.P. Teaser: POW WOW 2012 (Hawaii)

In a couple weeks, the AM crew will be heading over Hawaii to this year’s POW WOW. Curated by Jasper Wong and hosted by Loft In Space / Fresh Cafe in Oahu, the art retreat will feature a extensive lineup of artists painting the surrounding industrial district of Kaka’ako.
