Streets: The London Police @ Unit44

Last week, Newcastle was gifted a huge new mural all the way from Amsterdam as The London Police painted their iconic characters at Unit44. The duo christened their new wall with a showing at the Hoults Yard showspace including a selection of originals and limited editions. Openings: Rime & KC – “Sketchy M%#herfuckers” @ Known Gallery

Last week, Known Gallery presented the exhibition titled Sketchy M%#herfuckers featuring artwork by 7th Letter writer RIME and artist KC which showed currently with Dabs Myla’s Break Night Lovers (covered). The show included a variety of works which covered the gallery’s walls with colorful characters and bright colors. RIME shared a variety of sketches and works on canvas which demonstrate his signature style characters and settings. Showing: Travis Louie – “The Secret Pet Society” @ William Baczek Fine Arts

Currently showing at William Baczek Fine Arts through June 2nd is The Secret Pet Society from NY-based painter Travis Louie (interviewed). The new body of work for this Northampton, Massachusetts exhibition focuses in on people and their strange pets, an angle that Travis has explored before. Included are floating creatures, monsters, insects, huge frogs among other bizarre characters, and suffice it to say, some of the owners are not that normal themselves. Streets: Ericailcane (Belgium)

Earlier this month, Ericailcane painted a set of three murals in Ghent, Belgium utilizing his distinctive illustrative style to coincide with the second edition of EI. The renowned Italian street artist painted the pieces on the outer walls of the artists’ workspace ‘het vogelnest vzw’ (Nieuwevaart 118D – 9000 GHENT – Belgium) where an event will be held on May 19th with lectures and a screening of Exit Through the Gift Shop. Frieze Week NYC ’12: Pulse Art Fair – First Look

With our overview of the main fair done, we now move on to the satellite fairs of Frieze week in New York. The Pulse fair was held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in Chelsea and featured sixty national and international galleries, presenting exhibitions that span across all media, from works on paper, painting, and sculpture, to performance, installation, and video art. New York Times & Artists Pay Tribute to Maurice Sendak

With the great Maurice Sendak leaving us last week and heading off to Where the Wild Things Are, the interwebs have been buzzing with respect for the inspirational artist and illustrator.
