Upcoming: Greg “Craola” Simkins @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

On May 17th, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angelels will be presenting a new body of work from Greg Simkins (featured). Also known as Craola to his fans, the locally-based artist will be returning to the showspace (see 2012 & 2013) with a fresh batch of paintings featuring his surreal cast of animal characters. It’s time for another Art Focus, with this edition introducing the work of Tom McKinley. The San Francisco based artist works in oils, creating paintings of mid-century and modern homes seen typically from outside, often times illuminated by twilight. Rendered in a photo-realistic style, the unoccupied architectural gems filled with art and furniture almost make a viewer feel like a voyeur as well as a little envious of spaces that we may never have. Thomas Canto recently created a futuristic installation inside of one of the rooms at the Vieux Panier Hotel in Marseilles. This small hotel is built in an old Corsican grocery shop, and it has five unique rooms, each designed in a different style by a contemporary artist for a period of one year.
