Shepard Fairey (featured) took his talents on a global tour this year with stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, Philly, New York, Berlin, Tokyo and South Africa, to name a few. One of his more notable stops was in South Africa, which has long been a focal point of political dissent. Given this situation, it’s fitting that Mr. Fairey paid his first-ever visit to Johannesburg to build an eight story mural of their recently passed icon Nelson Mandela. Mandela was a key anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa. Shepard cites Mandela as a significant inspiration in his past work in South Africa. Check out this video by our friend Hey Luke of the artist’s amazing mural and visit to Johannesburg w/ Hennessy.
