Streets: Rustam Qbic (Moscow)

Rustam Qbic is a Russian artist that’s been firmly making his way through the artworld with his rich surrealist canvases, illustrations and murals. Recently, he spent couple of days working on this large commissioned mural in Moscow that was painted using acrylic and spraypaint. Based on one of his drawings, this dreamy image shows a little boy sitting in a giant lotus flower above the city, working on his computer. Currently at the Upper East Side location (20 East 79th Street) of Skarstedt Gallery in New York, a new body of work from Lucien Smith is on display through June 27th. Only few months after creating his first ever outdoors mural for their event in Honolulu (covered), James Jean (interviewed) was invited to join the POW! WOW! family at their first edition of POW! WOW! Taiwan. Designated an old rugged wall at the Taipei Zoo, the Taiwanese American visual artist fought the elements and created this impressive mural titled Paradise. It looks like the Inside / Out message from JR (interviewed) isn’t stopping anytime soon. We had just finished enjoying the street intervention in Shanghai ourselves (also see Time Square, Japan, Los Angeles & London, just to name of few) and now the French artist is back in his hometown for a massive installation at the Panthéon. While in Taiwan for POW! WOW! Taiwan, husband and wife Brendan Monroe and Evah Fan took the opportunity to show together at Shimokitazawa Books. Entitled Black and Night, the exhibition featured a small selection of Monroe’s topographic “Black” ink drawings and Fan’s characters floating among the stars of the “Night” sky.
