Gonzalo Borondo’s Animal recently opened on the 5th of February at London’s Newcastle Project Space in Shoreditch, and is now in its final week. Closing on the 26th of February, this elaborate show presented by Rex Romae is a worthy visit for all the street and urban art fans.
For this well formulated and executed show, the Spanish artist created eight thematic spaces which work great individually, as well as a whole. These included a cluster of small pieces on glass, large paintings, a haystack installation, glass works with an interesting shadow effect, video installations and animations created with Carmen Maín (Spain), and an impressive sculptural install created together with Edoardo Tresoldi (Italy) and Despina Charitonidi (Greece). Compising of diverse types of works, the exhibition puts Borondo’s versatility on display, but in a well thought and conceptually compact form. Exploring the conflict between our animal instincts and present lives, the street artist’s poetic and evoking figurative works are raw and direct, keeping his signature style no matter what image or technique is used. Mixing different mediums, different scales and different ways of presenting his ideas and subjects, he has put together a multi-sensory experience for the visitors.
