This Friday sees the opening of a local solo exhibition for Rochester NY based artist St. Monci at Axom Gallery. Universal Magnetic will be a continuation of his abstract / geometric based works. Whilst the subject matter is undeniably of it’s time, there is a mid-century / modernist flavour present throughout this artist’s body of work.
Always using hard edges and straight lines in his patternation, St. Monci’s work is presented predominantly on paper in a pastel palette throughout; these soft hues complimented by the rounded corners of the paper he uses and the frames he hand-makes himself.
The studio shots of the work in progress come courtesy of photographer Hannah Betts. For further insight check out this video profile of the artist recently aired by WWXI.
