This Friday (February 26th), Jacob Lewis Gallery will unveil a new body of work from Michael Bevilacqua. Entitled The Owls a Re Not What they. s EE m, this exhibition borrows its title from David Lynch’s iconic television serial drama Twin Peaks, drawing inspiration from its mysterious and enigmatic dissemination of symbols. For this series of paintings, Bevilaqua takes on the role of a collector of culture, fusing layers of visual currency – from the 3D concert graphics of German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk to traditional West African masks. Nothing is off limits to the artist as he scours the digital plane for inspiration and his artwork often evokes the nostalgia of the 8-bit video game.
