Streets: DEIH (Morocco)

After a look at what Saner painted for the Jidar Urban Art Festival in Morocco, we now turn our attention to the contribution by DEIH. The wall in Rabat was transformed by the Spanish street artist in his typical comic-inspired style and can be found in in Jacob Mansoir for those in the area. Ruttkowski;68 in Cologne, Germany is currently showing I can’t look at your face anymore, a solo by Pieter Janssen aka Parra. For his second exhibition with the gallery, the Dutch artist, illustrator and designer created an all new body of work consisting of canvases, sculptures and objects. Inspired by the phenomenon of selfies and the creation of edited selves in social media, the pieces in the show are focused on obscuring the face. Basel Week Switzerland ’16 / Upcoming: Daniel Arsham

For Art Basel in Switzerland coming up in June, Daniel Arsham will be presenting his signature “fictional archeology” to fans and collectors in Basel with a twist. While mainly working in black and white in the past due in part to his colorblindness, the Brooklyn-based artist received specially made lenses that corrected this problem last year and has recently been experimenting with works in color. Karl Hab – “24H LOS ANGELES”

AM contributing photographer and world traveler, Karl Hab, recently released a book about his experiences in Los Angeles. Entitled 24H LOS ANGELES, the 196 page publication (introduction by Daniel Arsham) has no page numbers, but instead features hours corresponding to these times: morning, noon, afternoon and evening. Album Covers: Kevin Peterson x Red Hot Chili Peppers

For their new album, The Getaway, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have decided to use the work of Kevin Peterson on the cover. The image chosen was cropped from the Houston-based artist’s Coalition II painting (seen below), some of his instantly recognizable imagery of children strolling through urban environments with their animal companions. Yoshitomo Nara recently returned to the Stephen Friedman Gallery in London for a fourth exhibition of new works. This show features new paintings on canvas, paintings on cotton mounted wood panel and the largest collection of new drawings on paper. Adolescent characters and animals are depicted with nuanced considerations of alienation, anger and curiosity. Juxtaposed with slogans and often salty language, they are at once cheeky, vulnerable and threatening. Age of Empire, a new solo from Andrew Schoultz opened last week at Joshua Liner Gallery in New York. The exhibition features painting and work on paper referencing patterns in history like war, natural disasters, and globalization as well as social, political, and economic crises. Releases: Pejac – “Wound” Print

After returning from an inspiring trip to Jordan (covered), Pejac spent the last couple days finalizing his upcoming print release, Wound. Showing an ice breaker leaving a bloody scar as it roams the frozen ocean, it’s one of the works by the Spanish artist that speaks to major environmental issues. Through a minimalist approach, using a limited color palette and lots of negative space to accent the message, Pejac created an emotive image that speaks volumes. Last month, David Choe (featured) led a group of artists into the wilds of Morocco on another Igloo Hong funded project (also see Cambodia). Included on the trip to Marrakech were repeat attendees El Mac & Andrew Hem along with newcomers Mars-1, Aaron Horkey, and DVS-1.
