Releases: El Mac – “Cry Now” & “Amor y Arte” Prints

Later today (March 2nd) at 8 am PST, El Mac will be releasing two prints concurrently – Cry Now & Amor y Arte. The first features a mustached clown with tears streaming down his face (16″ x 22″ image size, 20″ x 26″ paper size), which will be produced in an edition of 88 while the second one with the same measurements features a ribbon with the words “Amor – Arte” and four roses surrounding a red heart which will made available in a run of 90. Previews: Atsuko Goto – “The Silence of Idols” @ Thinkspace Gallery

On March 4th, Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting a solo show from Atsuko Goto in their project room. Entitled The Silence of Idols, the works from the Japanese artist features faces cloaked in flora & fauna and inspired by the Shinto belief that “nature is animated by divinity and sacred spirits harbored in every living and inanimate thing.” The haunting images are creating with a unique selection of diluted pigments made from lapis lazuli, ink, and gum arabic applied to cotton. Releases: Jeff Soto – “The Magic Message” Print

Jeff Soto (interviewed) just released a new giclée print through Pangeaseed entitled The Magic Message. Hand embellished and featuring deckled edges, the 18 x 18″ edition was produced in a run of 50, costs $100, and will come signed and numbered. The image highlights the Atlantic Goliath Grouper classified as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. POW! WOW! Hawaii ’17: James Jean

Amidst all of the street art during this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii, one of the more unique elements of the event that could be observed were the portrait sessions with James Jean (interviewed). Featuring a diverse selection of subjects, the six chosen ones sat for a few hours with the gifted artist as he masterfully captured their visages in a series of loose yet detailed paintings. Previews: Sean Norvet – “High on Stress” @ Amala Gallery

Amala gallery in Tokyo will be opening this weekend a small showing by American artist Sean Norvet. High On Stress will be the first solo show outside the US for the LA-based artist for which he prepared three new paintings.
