Showing: Rone – “The Omega Project” (Melbourne)

Recently in his hometown of Melbourne, Rone created a unique installation lasting only a few weeks at an abandoned 1900s weatherboard cottage. Entitled The Omega Project, the temporary showcase in the condemned house features the Australian street artist’s signature portraiture on the walls and interiors decorated by set designer Carly Spooner. The project is a homage a time past and is also the most extensive piece of art Rone has ever created in one space. Via Designboom. Discuss Rone here.

Previews: Josh Keyes – “Implosion” @ Thinkspace Gallery

This Saturday night (August 5th), the long overdue show in Los Angeles from Josh Keyes (interviewed) opens its doors at Thinkspace Gallery. Implosion presents the Portland-based artist’s view of a dystopian post-human world, a sort of a warning with oftentimes scenes of environmental decay and nature reclaiming man-made structures. Featuring strongly in the new body of work is the use of graffiti juxtaposed in absurd locales, a construct which Keyes seems to be using to show the overreach of our society to deplete Earth’s life forces and our possible chaotic future. Only a month ahead of the 17th edition of Nuart Festival in Stavanger, the Nuart team announced their latest public art project – Nuart RAD (River Arts District), which kicked off in Oslo last week with Isaac Cordal. Spanish artists Sebas Velasco & Iñigo Sesma, recently took part in the refreshing Graffiti Na Gradele festival on the scenic island of Brac in Croaita. The two San Sebastian-based friends and studio mates painted a new collaborative piece titled Yugoslav riviera at the children park on the edge of the local harbor. This Saturday, August 5th, the same night Thinkspace will be showing Josh Keyes, their project room will be putting Ken Flewellyn’s new paintings on display. Entitled Stay Gold, the fresh body of work will combine his lifelong love of Hip Hop and Japanese culture. The locally-based artist combines women in traditional fabrics with chains, sneakers, boom boxes, and other accouterments giving viewers a unique view of cultural identity.

On August 19th, Booth Gallery in New York will be opening a new solo show from Ronit Baragna entitled Embraced. The disturbing sculptures that the Israeli artist has prepared for the exhibition consist of her instantly recognizable tableware erupting with human fingers and mouths. The playful yet provocative pieces attempt to blur the lines between the inanimate and the alive, bringing to mind a scene from a surreal and macabre tea party. Discuss Ronit Baragna here.
