AM recently attended the opening of Brett Amory’s (interviewed) latest NY solo Dark Light (previewed) at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. This new series of paintings is a departure from Brett’s daytime series as the subjects are based in the still of night. However, Brett transitions his subjects and urban environments effortlessly into the emptiness of nocturnal darkness. We felt the lost and lonely feelings which we usually experienced in Brett’s works, but with the sun taken away, it felt even a little eerie as desolation wrapped around his signature negative spaced paintings.
