Leading up to the opening of the Vitality and Verve: Transforming the Urban Landscape exhibition last night at the Long Beach Museum of Art (LBMA), we had the opportunity for a preview look at some the murals being created (shared with you here & here). From what we saw, we were really excited to see the culmination of something historic and what we have never seen to this scale before with you – a museum exhibition featuring epic indoor murals from a strong roster of what is a mix of street, graffiti, and traditional artists from the new contemporary art movement. The exhibition we saw last night certainly exceeded our expectations as each artist put in their time and their best foot forward with their contributions.
Put on in collaboration by Thinkspace Gallery, the people behind POW! WOW!, and LBMA, the show included works from Andrew Schoultz, Jeff Soto, Cryptik, Audrey Kawasaki, Aaron Horkey, Brendan Monroe, Esao Andrews, Greg “Craola” Simkins, Hot Tea, James Bullough, Nosego, Alex Yanes, Brandon Shigeta, John S. Culqui, Low Bros, Meggs, Nychos, Saber, and Tristan Eaton. Make sure you make plans to see the exhibition for yourself before it ends on September 27th, as well as heading over to check out the outdoor murals for POW! WOW! Long Beach which the artists are still in the process of painting through the weekend (addresses here).
