German artist Anton Henning is opening his first solo show in Spain on February 22nd at Galeria Javier Lopez in Madrid. For this occasion, the artist has conceived a special project, transforming the exhibition space into an unique installation that integrates his painting and sculpture.
Henning is a self-taught, versatile artist that’s been actively creating art since the mid-1980s in Berlin, London and New York. Through direct contact with other artists and the opportunity to pursue his vision of the classic art, he created his own visual language based on a personal reading of the avant-garde movements of the twentieth century. Through painting, sculpture, photography, video, drawing, music and design, one can notice layers of meaning and indirect reference to artists such as Courbet, Picasso, Duchamp, Arp or Henry Moore. This exhibition will include paintings from a series of nudes, interiors, portraits and surrealist compositions, as well as bronze sculptures and an ensemble of canvases that offer an unexpected interpretation of some characters from The Simpsons.
