Last month Slow Culture moved from LA’s Highland Park to Chinatown, and on March 4th, they opened the PDFW: Performance. Drawing. Film. Writing. group show by THE DFW crew. Curated by Barry Mcgee and made possible with support from Obey and Vans, the show marks a new phase for the secret international art club that is DFW.
Established as an art gallery, Slow Culture’s new space is meant to provide artists with a workspace and studio to help foster new projects, workshops, and installations. With their general idea being to present everything from visual artists to musicians and independent publishers, this event was a perfect example of such efforts. Showcasing works of performance, drawing, film and writing, along with paintings, sculptures and more “traditional” forms, the exhibition included works by both well established and unknown artists – from Andrew Jefferey Wright’s psychedelic prints and social commentary drawings, to Isaac Lin’s calligraphy-like interventions, to Emilia Brintnall paper mache sculptures, to Ara Peterson abstract shapes, to Jessica Ciocci’s colorful explosions, to signature Lily Quan aka Barry Mcgee works.
The full list of participating artists include DFW members Ara Peterson, Rose Luardo, Isaac Lin, Ivete Lucas, Patrick Bresnan, Jessica Ciocci, Jacob Ciocci, Lily Quan, Dan Murphy, Ben Jones, Ken Kagami, Emilia Brintnall, Jesse Geller and Andrew Jefferey Wright. The show will stay on view until April 3rd.
