On April 8th, The Garage in Amsterdam opened a solo show by Michael De Feo, otherwise known as “The Flower Guy.” The artist that has received worldwide recognition with the iconic flowers that he’s been painting for nearly 25 years will be introducing a new body of work entitled The Fashion Pages.
This new selection of work marks a significant turn in the career of one of street art’s pioneers. Stepping away from his signature symbol, but staying within the same idyllic symbolism, these new pieces evolved from his recent takeovers of the ad spaces of New York City bus stop shelters. More colorful, almost impressionistic, the new imagery was created atop fashion editorials and advertisements by painting colorful abstract petals, leafs and branches. Knowing that many of the photographers, models and brands behind the original ads actually applauded his interventions, the NYC-based artist blurred the line between unsanctioned & authorized collaborations with these pieces. The sizes of works on view range from bus shelter ads, to posters, to magazine spreads and single pages.
