Openings: LIVESTRONG x Nike Stages Exhibition (NYC) @ Deitch Projects

As anticipated, the highly praised “Stages” exhibition made it’s US debut yesterday in a beautiful pop-up space hosted by Deitch Projects in New York’s Soho district. As we mentioned when the show debuted in Paris (covered), “Stages” is a traveling exhibition curated by Nike and Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation to elevate awareness of the fight against cancer with some of the art world’s most influential artists. AM was invited to attend the press preview and to speak with the all-star cast of artists about their works. We […]

Preview: Oliver Vernon – “Double Down” @ Irvine Contemporary

Our friend Oliver Vernon is about to premier a new set of work at the Irvine Contemporary tonight (6pm).  The show “Double Down” consists of the next stage in Oliver’s already psychedelic and well rendered 3-D visual works, utilizing gouache, ink and acrylic to create his complex compositions. During his show at Joshua Liner Gallery (covered) and his last show down here in DC (covered), we caught ourselves and others staring at his work trying to take in all the detail. Another incentive to stop […]

Dr. Sketchy Anti-Art School with Tara McPherson

We can’t seem to get enough of Tara McPherson and Molly Crabapple since drawing along side them at Baby Tattooville in the Riverside Art Museum (covered). So, AM decided to stop by and get in a little schooling with a special edition of NYC’s Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School featuring none other than our friend Tara McPherson. For this special session a “life drawing” model was transformed into a beautiful & seductive “Lonely Heart” siren. More after the jump.

Openings: Os Gemeos – “Vertigo” @ Brazilian Art Museum: Sao Paulo (MAB-FAAP)

The first time we caught Os Gemeos at a museum was at the CCBB of Rio de Janerio (covered). Then this summer, we hung with Octavio and Gustavo on the streets of Manhattan (here) as they created an awe-inspiring mural to share with the citizens of New York. With all the success they already had in 2009, it left us wondering what they would do next? Well, great artists often seem to build upon their successes and now the Brazilian twins have stepped their game up again with […]

Preview: Conor Harrington – “Headless Heroes” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

Next week, Irish sensation Conor Harrington (interviewed) will show a new body of work entitled “Headless Heroes” (teased). A master mixologist when it comes to urban/fine art, Conor will be opening his show on Friday (Oct 30th) at Lazarides (Rathbone Place), following the Micallef show. The theme of this show will not only focus on the masculine side of the world, but also the inclusion of the female form. We look forward to see the intricate details that we’ve come to expect from the layers […]

Preview: “True Self” curated by Gary Baseman @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

BT alumni Gary Baseman (interviewed) is curating a fabulous group show at Jonathan LeVine Gallery this Saturday (Oct. 24th). Aptly named “True Self”, the show encourages each artist to look deep inside themselves and create an image which they feel represents their own passion or obsession. The show has a stacked roster of strong participants such as Adam Wallacavage, Christian Clayton (featured), Cleon Peterson, Dalek (interviewed), Dave Cooper, Eric White (interviewed), Esther Pearl Watson, Friends With You, Gary Taxali, James Jean (interviewed), Korin Faught, Lola, Luke […]

Openings: Shepard Fairey “Supply & Demand” @ Warhol Museum

“Don’t pay any attention to what they write about you. Just measure it in inches” – Andy Warhol – a wise quote from the legendary pop artist. A quote which amid all the legal drama with the AP is advice that Shepard Fairey and museum patrons took to heart on Saturday when his “Supply & Demand” show was unveiled at the famed Warhol Museum. A special preview night was held to celebrate the second leg of Shepard’s 20 year retrospective and it seemed as if […]

Openings: FrePrs @ Galeria Con Safos

On October 3rd, up and coming stencil artist FrePrs held his first solo at Galeria Con Safos in Santa Ana. We took notice of his bright and bold color combos which went great with his fresh and clean stencil techniques. FrePrs made sure there were plenty of mediums available for attendees to enjoy from canvas to prints. Judging from this impressive debut solo, we will be looking forward to seeing what he has planned for the future. See the opening night pics after the jump.

Openings: Molly Crabapple @ Pixel Show – Sao Paulo (Brazil)

Right after we hung out with Molly Crabapple at Baby Tattooville, she jetted her way down to the southern hemisphere to attend the Pixel Show in Sao Paulo, Brazil (Oct 10th-11th). This unique multimedia art conference addresses many different aspects of art world including photography, illustration, street, fashion and film. Thousands of aspiring Latin American artisans attended the conference in search of inspiration from featured artists such as Ms. Crabapple. Ever the busy body, Molly made time to give a talk at the packed conference, interview with MTV and […]

Faile – “Wood Paintings”

We have an update for Faile fans as the Brooklyn collective released some stunning detailed pictures of the “Wood Paintings” which we premiered for you (here) at the recent show with their US representation Perry Rubenstein Gallery. These new pieces comprise of multiple painted snapshots of Faile’s classic imagery meticulously patched together to form a brilliant mash-up of goodness we have come to expect from the artists formerly known as A-Life. The craftsmanship involved looks ridiculous, and we can’t wait to see these in person. For […]
