Openings: Candice Tripp – “Tiny Drama” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Opening along side Kris Kuksi (covered) this weekend at Joshua Liner Gallery, Candice Tripp (interviewed) made her New York debut with a fabulous showing.  The large body of work was chock full of witty spins on traditional wives’ tales told in a unique point of view that only Candice can have. The pieces certainly didn’t disappoint, with the detailed work taking viewers on a “trippy” journey. Check out all the pics after the jump.

Openings: Kris Kuksi – “Beast Anthology” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

On Saturday night, AM was on hand to experience the surreal sculptures of Kris Kuksi as Joshua Liner Gallery hosted the opening of his latest show the “Beast Anthology.” As seen in our preview of the show, the show looked like a literal monster, but nothing prepared us for seeing the work in person. The physical intricacies of his craftsmanship coupled with the fantastical stories unfolding in every piece held the packed house in a unique trance that we’ve rarely experienced from an art show in New York. […]

Openings: Alex Lukas – “The Eventuality of Daybreak” @ Glowlab

We recently stopped by Glowlab in NYC to check out “The Eventuality of Daybreak,” the new body of work from Alex Lukas. The solo exhibition from the Philly-based artist revealed a batch of works that highlighted desolate apocalyptic landscapes of major cities which depict a possible near future where these metropolises are literally submerged through coastal flooding. Alex works with various techniques including acrylic, ink, silkscreen, gouache to get his images and points across. The work was not only intricately put together, but also reasonably priced. If you’re […]

Openings: Eric Haze – “New Abstracts and Icons” @ Level 2 Gallery

Last night, AM attended the VIP opening of Eric Haze’s latest solo “New Abstracts and Icons” in Manhattan’s Level 2 Gallery. With DJ A Trak and Jay-Z’s DJ Neil Armstong working the turntables, many patrons of NYC’s art community and fashionistas came out to pay respect to an artist that has rocked the NYC scene for over three decades. Notables such as Kaws, Jose Parla, Logan Hicks, Charming Baker and many more were in attendance. The legendary New York artist came with a fresh new series […]

There will also be live art performances by Kevin Tong, Harry […]

Preview: Kris Kuksi “Beast Anthology” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Sometimes a title to the show says it all… “Beast Anthology” – Kris Kuksi is a beast! His behemoth sculptures have us all in awe. Here at AM headquarters, we’ve been looking forward to seeing this one since we visited his last sold out show at Joshua Liner Gallery (covered). The opening is this Saturday (Nov. 21st) from 6-9pm and it couldn’t be sooner. Kris’ signature hyper-detailing and the amazing compositions just boggles our senses. This past August, we teased you with his gorgeous creation for the show: “The Temptation of […]

Teaser: “Grifters” @ Lazarides (Rathbone Place)

A new show is about to hit London December 4th and it’s going to be a doozy. Lazarides Gallery (Rathbone) is putting together a serious group show called “Grifters.” Bringing together the group they infamously dubbed “the Outsiders” (here) they look to bring the heat both inside and outside with fresh works from: Polly Morgan, David Choe, Conor Harrington (interviewed), Vhils, Lucy Mclauchlan, Paul Insect, Invader, Charlie Isoe, Zevs, Faile, Antony Micallef (interviewed), Jonathan Yeo, Mode 2, Mark Jenkins, Todd James/ REAS, and more. We’ll […]

Openings: Ron English – “Immortal Underground” @ Opera Gallery

On Thursday night, AM attended the VIP opening of Ron English’s “Immortal Underground” at New York’s Opera Gallery. Nothing was spared as Ron’s infamous Cathy Cow Girl’s (courtesy of The Body of Art) arrived in a limo to kick off the opening night extravaganza. In attendance were many of NYC’s notables including Martha Cooper (interviewed), Aiko, Travis Louie (interviewed), Logan Hicks (interviewed), David Stoupakis, Fred Harper, Ally Hilfiger, Johanne Corno and Vincent Castiglia to name a few. The solo was an accumulation of many of […]

Preview: Steve “ESPO” Powers @ White Walls

ESPO (Steve Powers) has been getting busy in San Francisco in preparation for his show at White Walls Gallery (teased). Our friends at Shooting Gallery shared some pics of the ever intellectual and prolific Brooklyn street artist working neck-deep to transform the gallery into his own urban billboard. The show opens tomorrow (November 14th) so if you have a chance to stop by, it will be well worth it. As usual count on AM for on-site coverage.

Openings: WK Interact – “How To Blow Yourself Up” @ Subliminal Projects

This past weekend, WK Interact opened his “amped-up” show “How To Blow Yourself Up” at LA’s Subliminal Projects. Unlike his last show at Jonathan Levine (covered), which focused on giant canvas works, this show centered around the intricately designed urban mechanisms and interactive installations which were handcrafted by WK himself. The show was filled with his signature kinetic energy and even the installations seemed to radiate and pulsate with an tense pressure. Viewers that entered the show are greeted by WK’s version of a police booking […]
