After behind the scenes look at both the studio space and tower installation by Faile leading up to their monumental collaboration with the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center, the anticipation for the opening night performance brought out some of the who’s who of the New York street & urban art scene. Our peers at Wooster Collective & Brooklyn Street Art joined notables such as Tomokazu Matsuyama, How & Nosm, Logan Hicks and Carlo McCormick in the celebration of art & dance brought […]

Openings: Remio – “Man in Transition” @ Guerrero Gallery

San Francisco’s Guerrero Gallery recently hosted a fresh new exhibition from Remio. Entitled Man In Transition, this new body of work (previewed) was a reminder of how fun art can be both indoors and out. Utilizing surfboards, hand cranked zines, installations and a variety of graff techniques, Remio showed his talents and was not shy about taking chances. From precise pen and ink drawings to loose and abstract faces that convey the emotion and mood at the moment of creation, Remio took on the task of filling […]

Openings: GILF! – “i EXAM” @ Arcilesi Homberg

New York artist GILF! recently unveiled a fresh body of work at Arcilesi Homberg in DUMBO. Entitled i Exam, this brand new series of paintings comes from a different direction (as seen in our visit to her studio) than her previous graff & stencil style. Drawing from the experiences of recent travels to Berlin and Miami and utilizing the 90s visual effects of the “Magic Eye”, GILF flips the retro switch and begs the question that in the age of digital preoccupation and corporate & marketing bombardment, […]

Openings: JR @ Watarium Museum (Tokyo)

We recently gave you a sneak peek at French “photograffeur” JR as he worked feverishly to set up his first solo museum exhibition at Tokyo’s Watari Musuem of Contemporary Art. This past weekend, the show opened to a enthusiastic reception by the people in Japan. Highlighting his Inside Out project, which incorporated the residents from North East Japan (where the tsunami hit in March 2011), JR went big as he always does and wheat-pasted the exterior facade of the museum. On the inside, we saw a diverse […]

Openings: Rostarr – “Turbo Arena” @ Anonymous Gallery

Last week, New York artist Rostarr (featured) unveiled his latest body of work in Mexico City at Anonymous Gallery. This inspiring series of paintings entitled Turbo Arena draws from his hypnotic signature style that is a smooth mash-up of iconography, graphics & calligraphy. Ro took our breath away with a jaw dropping 80 foot installation that he hand painted all by his lonesome. This show is up through the end of March, so if you’re fortunate enough to be in Mexico City, do yourself a favor […]

Benefits: Tara McPherson x CCM – “Rebuilding From A Fire”

Last month, there was a monstrous four alarm fire that raged thru a handful of apartments in Williamsburg Brooklyn. As many as 200 firefighters were dispatched to get the flames under control, with very little success. While many were displaced, a few of the residents of this devastating tragedy were artist Tara McPherson, Sean Leonard and their lovely newborn child Ronin. Thankfully, they were out of the country at the time and nobody was seriously hurt. In light of the above circumstance, Cotton Candy Machine in […]

Entitled Late Confessions, this series of works are reflective of their unique multi-cultural heritage. Being born in Germany and growing up in Spain, the identical twin brothers reveal different parts of their past in the art that was produced for this exhibition. In addition to experiencing their signature color palette of red, grey and blacks, the twins pushed the boundaries with […]

Studio Visits: GILF! – “i EXAM”@ Arcilesi Homberg

New York based GILF! is at it again, and AM stopped by her Brooklyn studio to peep her latest body of work premiering at DUMBO’s Arcilesi Homberg. Drawing from her recent travels to Berlin and Miami, this new series entitled I EXAM is going in a totally different direction than her previous exhibition last year at Galerie Swanstrom. In this age of digital preoccupation, GILF! asks the viewer to take a closer look, as the message is more than just what’s on the surface. Cut through […]

Setup: Remio & Tim Diet @ Guerrero Gallery

AM recently stopped by San Francisco to visit Guerrero Gallery and caught the setup by Remio & Tim Diet as they prepared for their opening this Saturday. First up is Remio, known as a great writer around the world (part of both Barry McGee’s DFW/THR and Os Gemeos’ VLOK crew), bringing a impactful show entitled Man In Transition. Moving his street roots into the gallery realm, we enjoyed his “cluster faces” where he painted faces based on his graff style. At face value, it may look simple, but upon closer inspection the colors & textures […]
