Basel Week Miami ’10 – Corey Helford Gallery

One of the highlights of the Scope Art Fair this year was the booth from LA’s Corey Helford Gallery. From the moment we stepped foot in area, we noticed a plethora of art from some AM’s favorites like as Luke Chueh, D*Face, Chloe Early, Ron English, Natalia Fabia, Korin Faught, Eric Joyner, Brandi Milne, Sylvia Ji and Shag. The lux booth design was inviting as pimp couches and rugs invited spectators to take a load off to stare at a great preview of artwork for the […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Shepard Fairey – “Mandala Ornament”

Art Basel Week in Miami may have a lot of action indoors at the fairs, but that’s not the only place you will find the arts. As you can see with Wynwood Walls and along the streets of Miami, in recent years we have seen artists make contributions on the outdoors too. We took a break from the fair circuit during the week to meet up with friend Shepard Fairey to catch him working on this gorgeous Mandala Ornament mural on the side of a […]

Openings: Rei Sato – Peter & The Wolf Installation for Works & Process @ Guggenheim

On Saturday afternoon, AM was invited to attend the opening for “Works & Process” at the Guggenheim Museum. The annual production of Sergei Prokofiev’s children’s classic Peter & The Wolf has become a local holiday tradition that brings together some of the brightest artistic talents to create an unforgettable production that weaves art, music and performance into one. The vaunted collaboration brought together NYC Opera’s musical director George Manahan to conduct the Juilliard Ensemble, while fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi narrated the tale. We were especially interested […]

Previews: Mike Giant & Adam 5100 @ Guerrero Gallery

This Saturday, Guerrero Gallery will host the opening for Mike Giant and Adam 5100. Mike looks to bring it with his signature introspective iconography while Adam will showcase a brand new series of stencil-layered paintings. Check out an exclusive preview after the jump.

Releases: Mark Jenkins – “Flower Signs & Twins”

Mark Jenkins is back in the house, this time with something for (almost) everyone. He’s released two editions based on his publicly installed pieces – Flower Signs and Twins. We at AM have always loved his unique sculptures & installations, but rarely do we see an editioned piece from Jenkins. What we like about this is that both are hand made and individually signed. Get yours here while you can. Check out the image of the twins after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’10: Wynwood Walls

Last year, Wynwood Walls started out as an ambitious project to revive and reclaim the worndown Wynwood Arts District with art. This year, Tony Goldman upped the ante by expanding the project space with new works and installations by Ryan McGinness, Invader, Kenny Scharf, Ron English (featured), Jeff Soto’s (featured), Logan Hicks (interviewed), Friends With You and Shepard Fairey. In addition, a restaurant and a project gallery space were also created on-site to keep onlookers submerged in the arts. After checking out the space during […]

Studio Visits: Kid Zoom – “This City Will Eat Me Alive” @ Opera (Meatpacking)

This Saturday, December 11th (7pm), Kid Zoom is having his first ever US solo at a pop-up space (72 Gansevoort St. New York, NY 10014) in Manhattan’s Meatpacking district. The show is hosted by Opera Gallery and it looks to be pretty fresh. Ron English tipped us off on the Aussie artist a while back and we’ve been keeping an eye on him ever since. Looking forward to see the upcoming show, we dropped by KZ’s Brooklyn studio to catch him putting the final touches […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Michael Kohn Gallery

One of the notable booths from this year’s Art Basel was Los Angeles’ Michael Kohn Gallery. Some of our favorite artists like Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed), Ed Ruscha and Ryan McGinness were among the varied mix of talent represented. Another treat was a separate showcase where Kohn displayed a series of new works from  Mark Ryden. Check it all out after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’10: MOCA (LA) x LCD Soundsystem Party @ The Raleigh

Last night, AM attended the Basel party thrown by Jeffrey Deitch and the Los Angeles MOCA with guests being ushered to their seats with cigars & table service at the hip poolside of the Raleigh Hotel. It felt like all of South Beach was trying to get into the exclusive party where guest band LCD Soundsystem performed a monster set. We had a great time catching up as many of our friends & peers in the art scene were in attendance. Catch up with all […]
