Previews: Kai-lan (Karen) Chau – “Inner Dialogue” @ Sloan Fine Art

Next week, Kai-Lan (Karen) Chau will be making her fine art debut with Sloan Fine Art. The creator of the Emmy nominated hit Ni Hao, Kai-Lan will be premiering a Superflat series of works named “Inner Dialogue” (teased). The body of work will includes canvases, fiberglass sculptures, and of course prints. Another cool note is that Karen will donate all the proceeds from one of her print edition to two charities. Openings: Youtube Play – “Biennial of Creative Video” @ Guggenheim Museum NYC

Last night, AM attended the opening celebration of the Youtube Play: a Biennial of Creative Video at the  Guggenheim Museum in New York. As previewed, the 23,000 videos were filtered down to “the Shortlist“ of 125 that were then whittled down to the final 25 winners. The museum was packed with patrons and art fans attending the inaugural ceremonies. Come this weekend at ModoBrussels, Rotterdam based American artist Abner Preis will be debuting his latest work “The Super Hero Project”. Abner and various individuals will take to the streets done up as masked superheroes. Recently, AM attended the VIP preview of Tachen’s latest art book: Trespass: A History of Uncommissioned Urban Art. Written by Carlo McCormick, curated by our friends Marc & Sara Schiller at the Wooster Collective, and edited by Ethel Seno, this behemoth houses tons of pictures documenting graffiti and other forms of unsanctioned art all around the globe. JR Wins the 2011 TED Prize

The prolific and daring photographer/street artist JR has just been announced as the winner of the 2011 TED Prize, joining prestigious alumnus such as Bill Clinton and Bono. The TED Prize is awarded annually to an exceptional individual making a change in the world. Along with the $100,000 cash prize, the winner will unveil their “One Wish to Change the World” at the coming TED conference where the community will work on collaborative initiatives focusing on making the wish a reality. One of the most notable stops in our hectic journey through London was Lazarides’ “Hell’s Half Acre” group exhibition. The pop-up show was located in the eerie tunnels of Leake Street (AKA the Old Vic Tunnels where the Cans Festival was held). Showing: Ai Weiwei – “Sunflower Seeds” Installation @ Tate Modern

Last week, we had the pleasure of making the journey out to the Tate Modern in London to experience Ai Weiwei’s latest installation. The contemporary artist from China worked with the village of Jingdezhen to individually mold and hand paint over 100 million ceramic “Sunflower Seeds” which lined the entry hall adjacent to main doors of the museum. We’re in London excited for the upcoming Moniker Art Fair on October 14th-17th (coinciding with Frieze Art Fair). Previews: NYCC – Myth Warrior & Sharky @ Toy Qube Booth #2874

Our friends over at Toy Qube sent us a few images of the figures that will be released at this weekend’s New York Comicon. First is the long awaited release of the hand painted Dragon Warrior from the Mythic Warriors line. Created by Keith Poon, the 10-inch resin figurine is a mix of the classic Terracotta Warrrior & the mythical legends of Asian lore. It comes housed in a custom wood box. It’s an edition of 50 and only 25 will be available at the booth. […]
