Showing: Irina Davis – “Nice Girls” @ Sputnik Gallery

Sometimes it’s good to take a second look. That’s what happened when we did a double-take at Sputnik Gallery and discovered Irina Davis. When we first passed by her alluring works, we thought they were simply painted pin-up model pieces. But then upon closer inspection, we noticed that they were real models in pin-up poses. The twist that got us is that Irina actually paints the faces and certain details with watercolor to give the realistic photos a touch of fantasy and character. Davis’ show […]

Openings: Jean-Pierre Roy – “A Rational Spectacle” @ Rare Gallery

Jean Pierre Roy kicked off Rare Gallery’s art season with a breath taking show. The exhibition entitled “A Rational Spectacle” is a series of works based off of Thomas Jefferson’s statement: “the light which has been shed on the mind of man through the civilized world has given it a new direction from which no human mind can divert it.” This quote used in the context of today’s geopolitics of global energy needs vs. the fixed constraints of planetary resources is the fabric which Jean […]

Showing: Dan Bergeron aka Faux Reel @ Show & Tell Gallery

Dan Bergeron (aka Faux Reel) has a cool show at Toronto’s Show & Tell Gallery. The ever clever street artist created a body of work utilizing the distressed surface of the street and integrates them with the charm & familiarity of the human face. This exhibition will close this Sunday October 3rd, so try and make it out to catch this in person before it disappears forever. Check out more images after the jump.

Previews: Christina Empedocles – “As Evidenced” @ David B. Smith Gallery

Check out a preview of Christina Empedocles’ latest body of work, titled “As Evidenced”, to premiere this Friday at Denver’s David B. Smith Gallery.  The charming works by Empedocles lures you in with a 3D feel created by her technique of rendering everyday objects on paper.  Utilizing subjects such as birds, animals, people, and even personal memorabilia set on simple plain paper, she masterfully constructs a nostalgic presence and a unique visual texture that is almost hyper-realistic to the viewer.  The show opens this Friday […]

Jose Parla’s Concord Project Destined for The City of Toronto

There’s been a lot of buzz between Toronto and Brooklyn regarding Jose Parla’s incredible mural/installation called The Concord Project. Basically, these pieces are destined for Toronto as a public arts project sponsored by Concord Pacific, in an effort to give back to the community. Jose started this project this summer and just finished it for the soon to be lucky residents of T-Dot. We’ll be bringing […]
