AM recently stopped by Shepard Fairey’s (featured) secret secondary studio where much of his “fine art” is actually made. Officially called “Studio Number Two”, the hidden industrial space houses the heavy lumber for his coming show “Printed Matters” at Subliminal Projects. After the sold out show at Deitch Projects, Shep decided to create a body of work based on his signature silkscreening technique. On Thursday night, AM attended the much anticipated opening of Dave Kinsey’s solo exhibition at Joshua Liner Gallery. This being the largest body of works which Dave has created to date, it encompassed both rooms of JLG’s Chelsea gallery space – space well spent as Kinsey’s latest batch of artistic goodness entranced the audience with his signature style, mix of colors, textures and striking compositions. Last night, AM attended the private viewing of Ron English (featured), latest exhibition “Status Factory”. With the sponsorship of Opera Gallery, the pop-up exhibition was held in an extravagant triplex retail space in the heart of New York’s Soho district. Yesterday, AM attended the opening of Yoshitomo Nara’s epic retrospective at New York’s Asia Society. With anticipation building since attending his “Open Studio” session a few weeks prior, we didn’t know what more to expect from Nara and YNG/graf aside from the artwork being created by the artist and the cool construction of the “Home” installation. After checking out opening night though, it’s pretty obvious the expansive & comprehensive retrospective put together by curators Miwako Tezuka & Melissa Chiu will delight fans old and new. […]

Preview: Clayton Brothers – “Inside Out” @ Madison Museum of Contemporary Art

As we mentioned last summer, the Clayton Brothers are set to open a fantastic museum show at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art (MMoCA) over in Wisconsin this weekend. The brotherly duo will unveil twenty six paintings and three mixed media installations containing their wild color combos and electric characters. Check out a preview after the jump.
