Streets: Shepard Fairey – New York City Recap (Part 1)

In association with our blow by blow coverage of Shepard Fairey’s landmark “May Day” show that capped off a bittersweet goodbye to the now closed Deitch Projects, we thought it would be a good time to bring you a recap of the street action conducted by Shep and his industrious Obey crew. In addition to creating the high profile and massive mural at the corner of Houston & Bowery, Shep invited AM to tag along on two more “legal” endeavors. The first was the parking lot on the […]

Streets: Os Gemeos x Futura in NYC (Part 2)

After posting the mural project between Os Gemeos & Futura, we thought it wouldn’t be right to be in NYC and not stop by for an onsite AM look behind this project. The twins (Octavio & Gustavo) took an early crack at the legal mural space which is actually a Chelsea public school (P.S. 11) and is made possible by support from Nike, Montana Colors, and Allen Benedikt of 12oz Prophet & AKANYC. The ginormous figure measures over seven stories tall and from what you […]

Second Helpings: July 2010

As July heat beat down mercilessly on us, we found refuge in the cool indoor confines of the art world as it welcomed us with air conditioned goodness mixed with fantastic works of art. Openings: Dalek – “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason” @ Hurley )( SPACE

AM attended the opening of  James “Dalek” Marshall’s (interviewed) latest show, “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason”, at the Hurley Space. The unique twist to this show was the interactive opportunity for fans to “compose” their own piece of Dalek art. Sold at $200 dollars a square feet, fans selected from either a 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 feet section from the massive 37 foot canvas mural (previewed). The fun part was watching people slave over their decision on what area to cut and what colors to […]

Openings: “Sea No Evil” – 2010 Sea Shepherd Charity Show

The group show hosted great works from many notables such as Shepard Fairey, Clayton Brothers, Dave Kinsey, Gary Baseman, Mark Dean Veca, Audrey Kawasaki, Amy Sol, Joe Ledbetter, Lola, Travis Louie and Kozyndan. As expected, the event was packed with fans of both the art and the ocean. Throughout the night, DJ Diabetic and Crystal Method pumped great music to keep the crowd jumping. Eager patrons hovered over […]

Preview: Jonathan LeVine Gallery – “Annual Summer Invitational”

The cool thing about the “Annual Summer Invitational” at Jonathan LeVine Gallery is that we get to see some fresh faces that haven’t had an opportunity to grace the gallery walls before. As mentioned earlier, this year’s lineup looks promising with many faces familiar to AM readers taking stage with brand new works. Artists such as Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed), Tran Nguyen, Alex McLeod, Andrew Hem (interviewed), Becca Midwood, Evol, Judith Supine, Lola (featured), Morgan Slade, Marco Mazzoni, Nate Frizzell (featured), Oliver Warden and Oscar de las Flores […]

Streets: Nick Walker – “Amerikarma” in Williamsburg

Before we hit up the Meat Packing District with Nick Walker (interviewed), we spent the day in Williamsburg on the corner of Roebling & Metropolitan working on another mural. This “legal” project location was graciously provided by our friends at Brooklyn Street Art. Under the sweltering heat, Nick pulled out his latest stencil “Amerikarma”. We thought it would be a simple project, but the detailed oriented Mr. Walker took this project very seriously and dedicated over 5 hours working the Bullets & Stripes mural. Check […]
