Previews: Shawn Huckins – “Everything Is Hilarious And Nothing Is Real” @ Modernism Inc

Next month (May 5th) in San Francisco, Shawn Huckins (featured) will be opening a new solo at Modernism Inc entitled Everything Is Hilarious And Nothing Is Real. Previews: Danny van Ryswyk – “Tender Loving Darkness” @ Roq La Rue

On April 7th, Seattle’s Roq La Rue will be welcoming in Danny van Ryswyk and his series of sculptures in a show entitled Tender Loving Darkness. The Amsterdam-based artist uses an interesting process to create his morbid works, starting digitally with a 3D program. He then prints these out with a 3D printer and meticulously hand paints each one in a process that can take weeks. Along with these dark sculptural renditions, van Ryswyk also has included some prints in the exhibition. Discuss Danny van Ryswyk here.

Showing: Vhils – “Debris” @ HOCA Foundation (Part II)

After sharing with you the public installation from Vhils (filmed) inspired by the neon lights of Hong Kong, we now turn our attention to the exhibition he currently has on display with the HOCA Foundation. Debris was the first solo show from the Portuguese artist in Hong Kong and features his multitude of techniques on different mediums including a video installation. Previews: “Out Of Line” @ Subliminal Projects

On April 8th, Subliminal Projects will be opening a new group exhibition entitled Out Of Line featuring the work of Aaron Li-Hill, Guno Park (seen above), Mark Powell, and Von. The show participants were chosen for using primarily graphite, pen, and ink as their medium of choice, but also explores how they have expanded on traditional concepts of drawing. Previews: “Moleskin V” @ Spoke Art

On April 7th, the fifth edition of the moleskin group show will be opening at Spoke Art in San Francisco. Moleskin V is curated by gallery owner Ken Harman and Sydney-based artist Rod Luff and features artworks created directly onto the ubiquitous moleskin sketchbooks that are commonly used by artists around the world. Streets: Tristan Eaton (Tampa)

Last weekend, Tristan Eaton spent some time painting a mural on the side of Bern’s Steak House in Tampa, Florida. The piece (arranged by CASS Contemporary) on the 60 x 30 foot was created in the LA-based artist’s signature patchwork style to honor the restaurant’s 60th anniversary and features Florida panthers intertwined with classical statues. Releases: James Jean – “Pomegranate” Print

James Jean (interviewed) recently released woodblock print that he created at the Adachi Institute in Tokyo. The limited edition (run of 50) features a young woman using the red color dripping from a pomegranate as makeup, a beautiful example of the Japan-based artist’s artistic vision and craftsmanship. On Saturday night (April 2nd), Arcadia Contemporary will be opening their inaugural exhibition at its new home in Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station Arts Complex after 16 years in New York. The group show entitled Made in California will feature work from their artists that reside in the “Golden State” including John Brosio (seen above), Michael Chapman, Jeremy Lipking, Julio Reyes, John Wentz, Aron Wiesenfeld, and Vincent Xeus.
