Basel Week Miami ’14 / Streets: Shepard Fairey x Cleon Peterson

Every year during Basel Week Miami, AM always spends some time in the Wynwood district checking out the activity as street and graffiti artists put in the time to beautify the area. For 2014, the predominant facilitators in the area, Wynwood Walls, decided to focus on The Art of Collaboration. One of the standouts was this joint effort painting four sides of a building by Los Angeles-based artists and coworkers Shepard Fairey (featured) and Cleon Peterson. Take a look at how their imagery melded perfectly together in […]

Basel Week Miami ’14: SCOPE

One of the favorite fairs we visited during Basel Week Miami was SCOPE and its high concentration of art from the Low Brow, New Contemporary, and Street Art movements. Featured at the fair were pieces from the Dean Collection (from collector Swizz Beatz), a new sculptural piece (based on recent print) from Cleon Peterson in the entryway, an installation from Swoon, a Juxtapoz stand, and Heineken House live painting. Here are some photos to give you a taste of what was seen at the fair including this amazingly […]

Mirroring an exhibition (covered) several months ago at the Paul Stolper Gallery in London was a display of Damien Hirst’s oversized pharmaceuticals at their Art Basel Miami booth. The Schizophrenogenesis works consist of sculptural renditions that are an extension of his pill cabinet pieces as well as his fascination with the medical field as well as screen prints. See all our coverage of Basel Week Miami here. Discuss Damien Hirst here.

Basel Week Miami ’14 / Openings: Art Basel (Part I)

Here is part I of our coverage with some snapshots of things that caught our eye like the impressive Urs Fischer installation at the Sadie Coles HQ booth mirroring the exhibition at the end of […]

Openings: Phil Frost – “Intuitive Mathematics” @ Galeria Javier Lopez

Last week, fans of Phil Frost in Madrid saw the opening of Intuitive Mathematics, a solo showing at Galeria Javier Lopez and his first in Spain. Seen were large scale works as well as found objects that were painted over with his recognizable aesthetic, something he calls “intuitive perceptive portraiture.” Layers upon layers of typographical and geometric shapes flow in repeating patterns that he honed to perfection over time with mark-making on the streets. More photos below… Photo credit: Guillotine. Discuss Phil Frost here.

Seen were the children that frequently inhabit his visual language as well as the interplay between their use of animal costumes and the actual wild creatures that roam his world. Some more photos below but head over for a look yourself before it closes on December 6th. Photos via […]
