Entitled Electric Ritual, the currently showing selection of new paintings from Todd James is his third solo (see 2010, 2015) with Alice Gallery in Brussel. The vibrant new pieces from the New York-based artist continue his explorations of interiors while including some signature elements like his curvaceous nudes, war planes, and vivid color palette. Also included are some more abstract creations, with hints of shapes and forms from his familiar visual language. Discuss Todd “REAS” James here.

Streets: OG Slick (POW! WOW! Worcester)

Continuing to work with the POW! WOW! family, OG Slick recently finished a wall for this year’s event in Worcester, Massachusetts. The mural features a motif the Los Angeles-based artist has worked on in the past featuring his familiar Micky Mouse hands spray painting a smiley face. We’ll have more from POW! WOW! On September 28th, Quint Gallery in La Jolla will be opening a show from Kelsey Brookes entitled Fibonacci, Waveforms, and Capsid Symmetries. Continuing to draw from his scientific background as former biochemist for inspiration, the locally-used artist has found a novel way to present his geometric and patterned imagery by applying them to sculptural surfaces. Working in particular with the Fibonacci sequence and viral structures with this new body of work, these psychedelic wall mounted and free standing sculptures from Brookes have been in the works for most of this year. Last week, Galerie Perrotin opened a solo show from Madsaki entitled French Fries with Mayo, the first time the Japanese artist has exhibited in Paris. Releases: Skullphone – “California Collection” Print Set

Poster Child Prints recently released some new limited editions from Skullphone as a three part print series. Created in runs of 100, Gold Foil Grid, West Covina and Locksmith are $125, $75, and $50 respectively and come signed and numbered. Tomorrow night (September 15th) in Los Angeles, Arcadia Contemporary will be presenting some recent paintings from John Brosio. The new body of work includes many of the locally-based artist’s suburban landscapes, tinged with surreal features in the background like dinosaurs, natural disasters, and the monsters – with unsuspecting people in the foreground going about their daily life. Last weekend, YESNIK and Jaybo presented some new works for fans in Los Angeles with a surprisingly cohesive three day pop up show. Presented by F-U (For the Unconventional), For Better or Worse featured totemic nature-inspired works from the San Diego-based YESNIK that had a collage-like feel to the balanced compositions alongside Berlin-based Jaybo Monk’s portrait mashups which were described as “a fractured vision of contemporary society.” Both artists contributed sculptural pieces to exhibition – an eclectic selection of assemblages from Jaybo and some large-scale three dimensional representations of YESNIK’s imagery […]

This Thursday (September 13th), Conor Harrington (interviewed) will be opening a solo show in London entitled The Story of Us and Them. Consisting of 12 new works, the exhibition to be hosted by HENI Gallery sees the Irish artist explore the fine line between tribalism and patriotism. This Saturday night (September 15th), Cinta Vidal will be presenting her new solo show at Thinkspace Gallery in Los Angeles. Entitled Viewpoints, the exhibition features the Barcelona-based artist’s wonderful gravity-defying and Escher-esque imagery. Spanning complex architectural compositions, the natural world, as well as clusters of people, pets, and furniture, Vidal’s imaginative paintings draw the eye in.
