Continuing the collaboration between two galleries on opposite coasts, this Saturday night (July 14th) sees the opening of Go West at the Mark Moore Gallery in Los Angeles. The exhibition, which will be curated by Joshua Liner Gallery, is a followup to the Go East exhibition that was hosted at their New York showspace last May which was curated by Mark Moore. This Saturday, July 14th sees the opening of Jeremy Fish’s (featured) solo show at Fifty24SF. Entitled Where Hearts Get Left, the new body of work to be presented is a testament to the the Bay Area-based artist’s love for San Francisco. As such, the imagery presented is thematically tied into local references including Native American legends, food spots, tourist attractions, historical details, and more all rendered beautifully in his signature style including his use of sculptural motifs. This Saturday, July 14th, the Yokohama Museum of Art will be opening Yoshitomo Nara’s newest show a bit like you and me…, 11 years since the Japanese artist’s last solo there in 2001. The title of the exhibition is taken from a song by the Beatles, Nowhereman, expressing the relationship between the artist and his works and between his works and the viewer, as mentioned in the artist statement. With the opening of this year’s Comic-Con, we’ll have some news of things to look out for if you are in San Diego at the moment for the big event. The Los Angeles-based and MSK-affiliated RIME recently made the trip out to New York for this standout wall including the names of Smart Crew members DCEVE and TOPER. As evidenced by his other moniker “Jersey Joe”, RIME has roots and experience getting up in the area which he used to full advantage with this rooftop collaboration or tribute. Releases: Gregory Euclide – “Laid Down & Wiped Away” Print Set

The David B. Smith Gallery and artist Gregory Euclide recently released a series of prints from his Laid Down & Wiped Away project. Euclide teaches high school in Minnesota and during his twenty-five minute lunch periods began creating temporary paintings within that short allotted time frame as a demonstration to his students and an aesthetic challenge. The works have now been reproduced in a special edition of ten portfolios chronicling Euclide’s experiments on his classroom whiteboard with each including eight pigment prints measuring 16 x 20 […]

Openings: Colin Christian – “Hello, Pretty Pretty” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Over the weekend, alongside new work from RISK, the talented Colin Christian (interviewed) put a selection of his sculptural creations on display at the Corey Helford Gallery. Much like his showing in Texas earlier in the year (covered), the new body of work collectively entitled Hello, Pretty Pretty featured a mix of free standing figures and wall mounted faces, all produced in Christian’s signature cyber-erotic aesthetic. Openings: RISK – “Old Habits Die Hard” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Over the weekend, the Corey Helford Gallery unveiled a new body of work from the LA-based graffiti artist RISK. The Culver City showspace had only recently curated a group exhibition including RISK that is currently showing in the UK (covered) and Old Habits Die Hard builds on the work from that show with further explorations into neon creations and sculptural pieces. Damien Hirst Donates Artwork To Burger King

Not content to just have his work displayed in an upmarket Shoreditch eatery (Tramshed Restaurant), British artist Damien Hirst has gone to the other end of the market and donated a piece of art to the Burger King in Leicester Square. The newly remodeled “Flameship” restaurant is located in the heart of London’s biggest tourist district which means visitors in town for the upcoming Olympics will come up close and personal with the spin painting.
