Way above the polar circle, a small Norwegian island community has kicked off a street art festival – Komafest. One of the first to arrive and probably the one that had to travel the farthest was the Sao Paulo-based Ethos who promptly […]

One of the busiest indoor malls (with more than 200,000 visitors a day) in Hong Kong’s Time Square recently played host to the work of Mike Stilkey (interviewed). The entire ground floor featured some of his signature book / painting installations with the largest piece standing 24 feet high. This Friday night at the First Amendment Gallery (1AM) in San Francisco, three artists will be joining forces to present The Composite Knowledge. Like many graffiti artists out there, Jaybo Monk, Poesia, and Sam Rodriguez are exploring what it means to transition from writers to the fine art world.  By fusing spray techniques learned on the streets with the paintbrush more often used in the studio, these artists attempt to strike a balance between both environments. Check out some of these set up photos curator […]

Streets: How & Nosm (Philadelphia)

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of watching How & Nosm as they completed a large wall on the LA Weekly building in Los Angeles. Now, the Spanish twins recently completed a new mural in Philadelphia (South 13th Street and Sansom Street) entitled Personal Melody. The New York-based duo initially used a 80′ boom lift that couldn’t reach the top, but with the delivery of a 125′ lift, the mural was able to be completed in just two days. Photos via Graffuturism. Discuss How & […]

All the principals behind the showing were present (see above – […]

Update: Kelsey Brookes

It looks like Kelsey Brookes has been working on a new body of work for Quint Contemporary Art in La Jolla, set to open in November. The upcoming series of paintings, drawing from the San Diego-based artist’s science background, will be inspired by structural diagrams of different neurotransmitters as well as the drugs that mimic them, both designer (i.e. xanex, prozac) and recreational (i.e. mescaline, LSD). And in other news, Brookes has been tapped to create covers for the Red Hot Chili Peppers as they get set to release 18 […]
