Previews: Alvaro Naddeo – “AmeriCan’t” @ Thinkspace

Tomorrow night (June 30th) in Los Angeles, Thinkspace Gallery will be presenting new works from Alvaro Naddeo in their project room. Continuing the locally-based artist’s focus on the ideas of waste, overconsumption and social inequality, AmeriCan’t includes a selection of watercolor on paper works that create impossible structures from urban detritus and discarded items. Born in Brazil, Naddeo has also lived in Lima, New York, and now LA, experiences that shape what he paints along with influences from his time working in advertising.

On July 7th, Spoke Art’s New York location will be hosting the Suggestivism: Resonance 2018 group exhibition. The long running series of shows are the brainchild of artist Nathan Spoor, who is curating the roster as well as contributing a piece to the show. Showing: Javier Calleja – “I hope you don’t mind” @ Yusto/Giner Gallery

Earlier this month, Yusto/Giner in Spain opened a solo show from Javier Calleja entitled I hope you don’t mind. Filling the gallery space of his hometown of Malaga, the new body of work features cartoonish portraits of his doe-eyed children mixed in with text like “Hero”, “I Hope You Don’t Mind”, and “Here And Now.” Rounding out the rest of exhibition from the Nara protege is a 3D figure as well as an emphatic “Done” painted on the walls next to one of his works. Fifty years since the uprising in Paris in 1968, Banksy has left his mark in the the birthplace of modern stencil art. Over the weekend, we shared some larger more politically inclined pieces with you so this article is dedicated to all of the elusive street artist’s signature rats that have infested the French capital. Releases: Glenn Barr – “Otaku Print Set”

Currently available through July 10th, an “Otaku Print Set” featuring the work of Glenn Barr is available at 1xRUN. Compiling four 11 x 13″ prints together (Used Heroes, Godzilla’s Ghost, Astro Defiance, Monster Zero), the Detroit-based artist has created images that fanboys will instantly notice with characters like Astroboy, Ultraman, and Godzilla populating his surreal world. Lining the 20 kilometre path of the De Stijl Cycle Route in central Netherlands are ten new sculptures from Boris Tellegen aka Delta. Commissioned to celebrate the 100 anniversary of the Neoplasticism artistic movement, the unique columns measuring 55 cm on each side and rising more than 6.5 metres in height from the Dutch artist is a modern response to and echoes the de Stijl ethos. Recap: Pejac – “Waterline” (Paris)

For a just a few days leading up and through the last weekend, Pejac held a special showing of his work inside an old ‘péniche’ boat moored right next to Notre-Dame. Entitled Waterline, the exhibition consisted of around 30 drawings and studies on paper as well as a couple clever installations. Evident in the work displayed were some elements of the Spanish artist’s work that make him special including commentary on environmental and socio-political issues, art history references, technical skill, and his dark humor. As part of the second New York edition of Condo, a gallery share program conceived of as an alternative to the traditional art fair, Nanzuka Gallery from Tokyo will opening a show at Petzel Gallery (35 E 67th Street location) on June 29th. The resulting three person exhibition (also featuring Makoto Taniguchi & Mori Masato), sees Haroshi (featured) putting 29 of his half kaiju half wood monsters on display. Seemingly coinciding with Paris Fashion Week, a few new yet unconfirmed pieces from Banksy recently materialized in the French capital.
