Videos: George Condo – “Mental States” @ New Museum

Vernissage TV recently put together some nice video footage of the George Condo exhibition in New York along with an interview with Gary Carrion-Murayari, associate curator at the New Museum. The first major retrospective of the American artist in the U.S. is interestingly not arranged chronologically but by different themes he’s explored in his paintings over the years. After watching the video, take a look at our photos from the opening here. Discuss George Condo here.

Teaser: Travis Louie – “The Creature Show” @ Roq La Rue

After an interesting collaborative show in Los Angeles at the end of last year (covered), Travis Louie (featured) turned his attention to his next body of work. The Creature Show opens next month, April 8th to be exact, in Seattle at the Roq La Rue Gallery and will feature some of what he paints best – imaginative beasts and creatures. The twist is that the monochromatic portraits will also include the owners who keep these critters as pets like the Emily and Her Troll Head […]

Showing: “IMPULSE – A Wall Drawing by Mark Dean Veca” @ The Lab

While working on his big solo coming up in LA in May, Mark Dean Veca (interviewed) has still found time to work on other projects (also see South Park show).  One of these side adventures has taken him to New York where he has installed his Impulse wall drawing at The Lab, which is run by Roger Smith Arts, who produces the art, music and spoken word programming for The Roger Smith Hotel. The install will be showing until April 8th and is meant to […]

Teaser: Ryan McGinness – “Art History Is Not Linear” @ Page Bond Gallery

A different kind of show opens tonight in Richmond, Virginia entitled Art History Is Not Linear at the Page Bond Gallery.  Ryan McGinness has taken paintings from the permanent collection of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and reduced them to their basic elements with his same special technique utilized in his recent blacklight series of paintings. It will be interesting to see what kind of dialogue is created with the chosen paintings seen in a new context.

Preview / Installation: Barry McGee, Osgemeos, Swoon, Neck Face – “Art in the Streets” @ MOCA

*Edit – Photos have been taken down by request of photographer* As you saw with our look yesterday at Shepard Fairey’s (featured) install process at the MOCA, the museum is abuzz with activity as all the artists are setting up their part of the exhibition. It looks like the Nuart website has now found more preview images of what to expect when Art in the Streets opens its doors next month including work from Barry McGee, Osgemeos, Swoon, and Neck Face. More images found on […]

This Friday night, Tessar Lo and Andrew Hem (interviewed) will inject the Toronto art scene with some of their signature imagery at the Show & Tell Gallery. With MAPS, Tessar continues to expand on the the colorful and the abstract that we have become familiar with since his solo at his hometown gallery last year (covered). To learn more about this new body of work that seems to explore the world between the dream and wakeful state, check out an interview with Mr. Lo on […]

Streets: Conor Harrington x Vhils (Lisbon)

Reminiscent of the fantastic JR x Vhils collaboration we witnessed in LA during the Eurotrash invasion last year, it looks like Vhils has busted out his tools again and has hooked up with another street artist for a project. As you know from our feature his recent piece in Lisbon, Conor Harrington’s (interviewed) was in town and apparently also put up this piece with some of Vhils’ special techniques although the effects weren’t as evident as the JR collab, perhaps since it was not as […]

It looks like Boris Tellegen aka Delta has decided to go big since we last saw his work at the Elms Lester show in 2009. These new large-scale floating sculptural works from the Dutch artist are currently on display at Amsterdam’s Muziekgebouw Concert Hall and are collectively entitled Subduction Zones, placed to welcome the World Minimal Music Festival. More photos after the jump…
