Teaser: Aiko – “Here’s Fun For Everyone” @ Andrew James Art (Shanghai)

Aiko Nakagawa, who we have seen do some work in China before, returns again to the Middle Kingdom next month. The New York based artist will be bringing a new body of work entitled “Here’s Fun For Everyone” to the Shanghai, the site of some of the street pieces she put up last year. Ever since Deitch’s takeover at the MOCA, There has been speculation and even words from the Deitch himself that suggests Los Angeles may see something like this in the future. Streets: Specter – “Unwanted Collaborations / Sidebusts”

Usually, messing with another artist’s work is considered poor form, but perhaps not so with a recent project by Specter. “Unwanted Collaborations / Sidebusts” sees the New York based artist rehabilitate and give fresh life to distressed and dissed street works from artists we are all familiar with. Another great group show is opening this weekend at the Copro Gallery. For the sixth time, the Los Angeles space will host a show featuring artists from BLAB!, the annual anthology of comics, illustration, and graphic design from Monte Beauchamp. This time, the book will be reformatted with the new official title being BLABWORLD (scenes from THE HEREAFTER). Yoshitomo Nara Statues Up in New York

Over the weekend, New York was gifted two new sculptural installations from Yoshitomo Nara, placed in conjunction with his retrospective at the Asia Society, set to open on September 9th. The pair of 12-foot-high fiberglass dogs are on the Upper East Side (one across from the entrance to the Asia Society and the other just in front of the Park Avenue Armory) and will stand guard throughout the exhibition set to run until the beginning of next year.
