Preview: Paul Richmond – “Cheesecake” @ Center on Halsted

Next Friday in Chicago, Ohio-based artist Paul Richmond will be opening his show “Cheesecake” at the Center on Halsted. Each painting will depict a gay celebrity caught in a moment of accidental exposure like the classic pin-up art from the 40s and 50s but with the obvious twist. Some of the featured models include Jesse Archer, Perez Hilton, James St. James, Bobbie Burlesque, Dale Levitski, Bobby Trendy, Del Shores, Jack Mackenroth, Ari Gold, and more. Video: “Outside the Box” @ Hammer Museum

Last weekend, the Hammer Museum at UCLA opened up a show entitled “Outside the Box” focusing on limited edition prints. The exhibition displays the recently acquired Edition Jacob Samuel archive of prints put out by the publisher which includes work by notables like Ed Ruscha, Anish Kapoor, Chirstopher Wool, Marina ABramovic, John Baldessari, and Barry McGee among many others. Streets: Vhils & JR in Los Angeles

According to Lazarides, Vhils and JR have both taken time out from their busy schedule (Vhils – Fame Fest, JR – Cannes Festival & Germany) to travel to Los Angeles to prepare for their upcoming show. Art HK 2010 recently opened their doors to over 150 galleries from all over the world to display their wares in the increasingly important cultural hub of Asia – Hong Kong. Teaser: Damon Soule @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

A late reminder for all our readers in the SF area. Tonight, Damon Soule opens a new show at the famed Bay Area art portal’s gallery – Fecal Face Dot Gallery. Streets: Os Gemeos, Blu, and Sam3 (Lisbon)

It looks like the mural collaboration between Os Gemeos and Blu that we showed you a couple days ago has been completed. Check out the awesome man with the crown of oil company logos sucking the world dry painted by Blu, pretty timely considering what is going on in the Gulf of Mexico. Art of the 2010 World Cup

As the 2010 FIFA World Cup gets closer, it’s only natural that more and more projects related to the world’s greatest sporting event come to light. Earlier, we brought you news of a Kehinde Wiley x Puma World Cup project and now word comes that FIFA has commissioned 17 artists to create soccer-themed works of art.
