Openings: Roa @ Factory Fresh

Talented street artist Roa continued his onslaught of recent shows (Cologne, Paris and London) with a new body of work for the Factory Fresh Gallery in New York. Reprising his signature lenticular paintings and utilizing found objects as canvas with movable parts revealing the anatomy of his animal subjects, the Belgium-based artist once again wowed the audience with ingenious constructs and on site installations. Preview: Richard Colman – “Keep Out the Light” @ New Image Art

Set to open tonight at New Image Art is Richard Colman’s “Keep Out the Light”. The new body of work will feature some of the artist’s signature imagery with increasingly frantic geometric patterns interspersed with the interconnected characters that inhabit his paintings. The bright and beautiful hues of his configurations provide a stark contrast to his violent and often overtly sexual world. From the look of things, visitors will be greeted with some pretty impressive murals and installations when the show opens. Check our more […]

Jeff Soto x Pearl Jam

Jeff Soto (interviewed) recently shared a project he has been working on – a Pearl Jam poster for a concert that played yesterday at the Madison Square Garden. He also nicely summarized his process for creating a screen print for those who are interested.. The print looks to be only an edition of 100 so email [email protected] if you would like to eventually get your hands on one of these. More pics after the jump…

Streets: Banksy in NY (Part II)

As we suspected after seeing the first couple pieces from Banksy in NY, he wasn’t done with the Big Apple yet. Looks like several other pieces have popped up in various locales such as Soho and Chinatown, although you’ll have to be quick if you want to see these in person as haters have been defacing them almost immediately. More images after the jump…

“Heroes & Villians” Book

Ever wonder how your favorite artist looks in person (like the beautiful Liz McGrath seen above)? Well, unless you live LA, Miami, SF, NY, or London, then chances are slim that you will get to meet them at an art show or event. While most people focus on the art, “Heroes & Villians” photographers Roman Cho and Tatiana Wills decided to center their attention on the actual artists themselves. And now that they have signed a deal with ZERO+ Publishing, hopefully you will get a […]

Art Stars – Polo Jeans Project

Starting early this year, Polo Jeans Co. Ralph Lauren began commissioning artists all over Europe to customize star shaped “canvases” made from denim. This list includes many artists that readers of AM will be familiar with including Matt Small (interviewed), Pam Glew, Pedro Matos, Herakut (interviewed), Delta, and Case. With the stars and stripes flag as inspiration, the artists created some pretty fantastic pieces that will appear in Polo Jeans Co. stores as well as all together in an exhibition in London at the end […]

Interview: Zilda

French artist Zilda’s classically influenced street work are inspired by old books and works of the master painters and sculptors of the past. With such a wealth of material to refer to, it was somewhat surprising to find out that his work is all originally hand-painted. We talked about his history, technique, and future,  among other things in our interview – all after the jump.

Openings: “Tiger Tiger Burning Bright” @ Roq La Rue

The “Tiger Tiger Burning Bright” group show opened last week in Seattle and AM friend / fellow Baby Tattooville alumni, Andrew Wong, sent us some pics of the festivities. As you saw in our preview, the Roq La Rue Gallery assembled a nice mix of artists for the show, which was inspired by William Blake’s poem “The Tiger”. Take a look at all the photos after the jump and get ready for a surprise from us next week in regards to this show that you […]

Streets: Conor Harrington & Know Hope in Israel

So it turns out the mural we got a hint of earlier from Conor Harrington (interviewed) was in Israel. Looks like he teamed up with Know Hope to put up some pretty sick pieces. And it looks like he’s not done yet as he looks to tackle the Israel-Palestine wall. More pics after the jump…
