Studio Visits: Ekundayo

Coming up on June 11th, the talented Ekundayo will be opening his show “Joy Today Jeopardy Tomorrow” at Thinkspace Gallery. His distinctive and grotesque work reflects on the struggles and adversities of life as well as the joys and lessons that can come from fighting through the difficult times. Streets: Roa in New York

The unstoppable Roa has been painting up the Big Apple while he was in town for his show at Factory Fresh. Streets: Os Gemeos & Blu (Lisbon)

Since Os Gemeos was in town for their exhibition (covered) at the Lisbon’s Museu Colecção Berardo, it was a foregone conclusion that they would leave their mark inside and out. Here you can see them teaming up with another high-flying street act, the prolific Blu from Italy. Hopefully we’ll see more photos of the completed piece soon… Discuss Os Gemeos here. This Wednesday night, May 26th, a group show opens at Affirmative Arts in New York. The diverse lineup features heavy-hitters Gary Baseman, Tim Biskup, Blek Le Rat, D*Face, Dalek, Date Farmers, Shepard Fairey, Doze Green, Keith Haring, James Jean, Kaws, Mark Ryden, Jeff Soto, Robert Williams, WK Interact coming together for an exhibition that partially benefits Art Connects New York. Openings: Hajime Sorayama @ Shirokane Art Complex

You may remember Hajime Sorayama from his collaboration with Kaws on the “No Future Companion” figure that we covered last year. A famous artist in his own right, the Japanese paintor, who is know for for his sexy robot and pinup art, opened a show recently at the Shirokane Art Complex. After Swoon (interviewed) kicked things off for this year’s Fame Festival, it appears that the versatile Vhils has arrived in Italy. Teaser: “Tarot – Artists’ Visions of the Future” @ Galerie Petits Papiers

Sounds like there are some Tarot themed shows and projects coming up this year. First up is “Tarot – Artists’ Visions of the Future” at Galerie Petits Papiers in Brussels. Although some of the other artists are unfamiliar to us, we do know that the supremely talented Ashley Wood painted the piece seen above for this exhibition.
