Video: São Paulo Street Art and Pixacao Graffiti

Here at AM, we simply can’t get enough of Brazilian street and urban art. The unique style, flair, vibrancy and most importantly its underlying grittiness create the perfect mind and retina stimulating combination. Last month’s São Paulo show at Scion Installation LA (covered) only reinforced this. Like us, we’re sure our readers have also been yearning for more. We bring you two videos to temporarily satisfy your cravings. The first video is a peek inside the Brazilian urban art scene, exploring how Choque Cultural got […]

Teaser/Releases: Nick Walker – “A Sequence of Events” @ Black Rat Press

Bristol vandal Nick Walker returns to Black Rat Press in London on May 28th to unveil his latest show “A Sequence of Events.” If Walker’s past shows are any indication of what we can expect, fans have a nice treat in store for them. With creative pieces that consistently hold their own against work from that other relatively famous artist from Bristol, AM is looking forward to seeing what Walker dreams up this time. The opening will also mark the release and signing for Walker’s […]

Preview: Jose Parla – “Reading Through Seeing” @ Ooi Botos Gallery (Hong Kong)

José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, “Reading Through Seeing,” (teased) opens on May 14th at Oos Botos Gallery in Hong Kong. In addition to his signature abstract calligraphic paintings and watercolors, the show also includes several of Parla’s beautiful Bizen-yaki pottery (featured) works. This latest series can be summed up in one word: stunning. The most color-rich and vibrant in recent memory, the works are most likely reflective of Parla’s positive expressions of Asia based on his “The New Grand Tour” cultural exchange […]

Streets: Faile – Spinning Prayer Wheel

Brooklyn based collective Faile have taken their street work to another level and put a nice “spin” on things by installing one of their prayer wheels (close-up feature) on North 6th Street in the Williamsburg neighborhood of New York City. Hand-carved from Merbau wood, the prayer wheels made their debut at Faile’s “Lost in Glimmering Shadows” (covered) show last year. Hopefully the steel bolted base and 100 pound weight means this piece will be around for fans to enjoy for some time – wishful thinking. […]

Interviews/Releases: ABOVE

ABOVE, the prolific street artist best known for his wooden arrow mobiles, clever wordplay pieces and most recently, his social and political commentary stencils, has long been putting up work throughout the world that both brings huge smiles and invokes serious contemplation. As long time fans, AM was thrilled to gain further insight into ABOVE’s recent work, thoughts on the economic crisis and his whirlwind journey during his “South Central” tour. To coincide with this interview, ABOVE just released a hand-pulled screen print on his […]

Openings: Conor Harrington & Chloe Early – “Chasing Castles” @ Kinsey/DesForges Gallery

An enthused crowd was on hand at Kinsey/DesForges for the opening of “Chasing Castles” (previewed), the first showing of a full-body of work in the United States by London based artists Conor Harrington and Chloe Early (interviewed). Both made the trip across the pond for the opening and happily chatted with fans about their work and the underlying message behind their rich, multi-layered, vibrantly colored pieces. For the show Harrington continued his exploration of symbols of power, masculinity, and their related societal expectations through his […]

Conor Harrington Mural for “Chasing Castles” @ Kinsey/DesForges Gallery

With their “Chasing Castles” dual-exhibition (previewed) opening at Kinsey/DesForges in a few hours, Conor Harrington and Chloe Early (interviewed) are taking in the Los Angeles sunshine while working on one last surprise for their fans this side of the pond. AM caught up with Harrington as he was putting up a massive mural on the second story wall outside the gallery while Early provided artistic input and support. See all of the in-progress photos after the jump.

Studio Visits/Video: Judith Supine

AM last showed you street artist Judith Supine’s colorful psychedelic imagery with the unveiling of his massive 18 x 16′ kinetic sculpture piece at the 15 Years of New Image Art show back in January. Curious as to what he’s been up to, the multi-talented Dante Ross recently paid his friend a visit at his home studio where we got a good look at Supine’s recent work in progress. Some pieces look slated for the street and others for gallery shows. Either way, we’re interested […]

Openings: Tessar Lo – “Future Perfect” & Eric Fortune – “Lost in Light” @ LeBasse Projects

Tessar Lo made his solo exhibition debut this past Saturday with “Future Perfect” (previewed) at LeBasse Projects. Lo certainly impressed with this latest series of dream-like paintings which represents his exploration of “independence and hope for my personal history. Accepting my humanity is to understand that my existence partially relies on others. Though I’d want to know what it’s like to not rely on, need or respond to anyone but myself, no man is an island.” The show also features a notable installation from Lo […]
