Openings: Ben EINE – “Shutter Font” Exhibition @ Nelly Duff

Ben EINE, the street artist best known for his massive lettering across shop fronts and walls throughout the United Kingdom, presented his “Shutter Font” exhibition last week with Nelly Duff. The show was a behind the scenes look into the various stages of EINE’s pieces and also served to document his world record attempt, with EINE slated to hand-pull a seventy-seven color screen print across an edition of 150 pieces, resulting in 11,550 individual hand-pulls to complete all the works. Hailing from the land down under, Melissa Haslam (interviewed) made her first trip to Los Angeles for her show “Wild Fields” (previewed) which opened this past weekend at LeBasse Projects. Drawing inspiration from the world around her, Haslam presents her viewers with what she understands best: striking female characters against the backdrop of local Aussie flora and fauna mixed with just the right splash of color. Teaser: FAME Festival 2009

Studio Cromie just announced their lineup for “FAME Festival 2009,” an outdoor art event held from June through September in which street and contemporary artists from across the globe descend on Italy to create some spectacular murals across the city of Grottaglie. New Image Art opens their “Octo Pusses” group exhibition this Saturday, May 2nd. The show includes a nice variety of up-and-comers and established names, featuring the work of Aaron Johnson, Antonio Diaz, Ben Jones, Cleon Peterson, Gino Perez, Judith Supine (studio visit) and Neck Face. Taking over the gallery’s project room with “Horse Radish” is Bast (studio visit), who makes his return to the gallery with a series based on horse jockey collages.
