Showing: Yayoi Kusama  – “In Infinity” @ Louisiana Museum of Modern Art (Denmark)

Currently at the Louisiana Museum of Art in Denmark, the first ever retrospective in Scandinavia from Yayoi Kusuma is on display through January 24th next year. In Infinity features works spanning more than six decades, from visual art to performance, film, literature and design, presented in chronological order including a new series of paintings created specifically by the Japanese artist for this exhibition. Previews: Jim Houser @ Black Book Gallery

On October 17th, Black Book Gallery will be presenting new works from Jim Houser (alongside Issac Tin Wei Lin) in their Denver showspace. This particular body of work features some interesting assemblage pieces from Houser that mirror some of the installations he has created in the past but smaller. Still present are the Philadelphia-based artist distinctive visual language featuring selected text and iconographic imagery, but created with a fresh perspective and more personal scale. Openings: Soey Milk – “PIDA” @ Hashimoto Contemporary

Earlier this month, Soey Milk brought her work up north to Hashimoto Contemporary in San Francisco for a solo entitled PIDA / 피다. The title references a Korean term that means to blossom or to become something else, something that applies to her continued development as an artist and her experimentation with technique. On display were a diverse selection of works including oil paintings and graphite drawings, some with embedded objects incorporated into the pieces. Releases: Ian Francis – “Reflective Encounter” & “Two People Feed A Lion” Prints

Those who enjoyed the stunning new works from Ian Francis (featured) for a showing earlier this summer (covered) at Lazarides had an opportunity earlier this week to purchase some prints of images seen at the exhibition. The gallery released limited editions (run of 20) featuring the British artist’s masterful melding of photorealistic and abstract imagery through their webstore. This is the last week The Hole in NYC is hosting Taylor McKimens’ solo show with over 20 paintings of different sizes and shapes, all being portraits of two imaginary people. Closing on October 14th with an official catalog release and signing from 6-8pm, Stoic Youth has been on view for a full month. Currently, Heath Ceramics in San Francisco has an amazing new set of works on display from Brendan Monroe (interviewed) at their Boiler Room space. Almost precisely one year since his debut show with the gallery, Todd James recently returned to Tokyo for his latest solo with Nanzuka Gallery titled Fly Like The Wind.
