Openings: Aakash Nihalani – “Vantage” @ Wunderkammern

On Friday, 4th of April, Wunderkammern Gallery in Rome opened the first Italian solo show by Aakash Nihalani. Famous for his street installations and works that play with geometry, perspective and optical illusion, the NYC-based artist created a whole new body of work for this show. More similar to his recent street interventions, the new work is even flatter but at the same time even more dimensional and interactive. And, it’s his ability to create such contradictory effects that makes his art so special and curious. Focusing […]

Kickstarter: A Secretly Filmed Sci-Fi Starring Ai Weiwei

An interesting project surfaced a couple days ago when it was announced that there was a secret short film starring Ai Weiwei in his acting debut. The dystopian sci-fi, written and directed by Jason Wishnow (the filmmaker behind “TED Talks”), made on the down low in China, features the dissident artist as a smuggler in a world without water. Overcoming many obstacles, all the footage has been shot (by Christopher Doyle no less), but help is still needed for production costs, visual effects, sound design, music, mix, color […]

Entitled Thunder in the Distance, this latest body of work continues his exploration of space aviation. Known for painting with oils, Kagan employs an impasto technique which utilizes thick and deliberate strokes. From upclose, the paintings seem to be almost coming apart, but take a few steps back and it appears to re-form tightly into a […]
