Previews: Lucas Price – ‘T.E.A.M. Atlas’ @ Rove Gallery

Expect more pleasant surprises from Lucas Price as his latest body of work is about to be revealed in solo show T.E.A.M. Atlas (an acronym for The Earth As My Atlas). Lucas continues his exploration of cataloguing ephemera within his work, but this time it appears that the work is all rendered or drawn rather than collaged. Rove Gallery in Hoxton Square play host to this latest collection of works comprised of new oil paintings and carbon / graphite drawings. Lucas sent us some images of the […]

Upcoming: “Post It 8” @ Giant Robot 2

Some of us here at AM are in Miami and will be missing the annual Post It show at Giant Robot 2 in Los Angeles, but those who will be in town next Saturday (December 8th) should head over for their chance at an affordable piece to add to their collection. Each work will be only $25 and done on a sticky note with huge list of artists to choose from including Audrey Kawasaki (above), APAK!, Ana Bagayan, Tim Biskup, Luke Chueh, Jen Corace, Korin Faught, […]

Upcoming: Jeff Koons @ Gagosian Gallery (Beverly Hills)

Returning to the Gagosian space in Beverly Hills where he last exhibited in 2009 (covered), Jeff Koons will be opening a new exhibition there on December 7th. Although he is know mostly for his larger than life sculptures, the last time he showed at the gallery, he brought with him bold new paintings. This time around may see him return to more three-dimensional works as a teaser image of his Coloring Book (1997–2005) sculpture has been posted up. Photo credit: Kenzo* Discuss Jeff Koons here.

Openings: “Tonight We Won’t Be Bored” – 10 Years Of V1 Gallery

With all the great art that is scattered all over the world, it’s not often that you can see works from prominent artists in your home town – and even less likely you see them side by side. That is exactly the scenario we have in Copenhagen at the V1 Gallery as they celebrate their 10 year anniversary with a massive group show entitled Tonight We Won’t Be Bored. Take for example the wall above that has pieces from Todd James, Futura, DearRainDrop, and Kenny Scharf that […]

Openings: Takashi Murakami – “Flowers & Skulls” @ Gagosian (Hong Kong)

Last week, the Gagosian in Hong Kong presented a selection of works from Takashi Murakami entitled Flowers & Skulls, common reoccurring themes in the Japanese superstar’s imagery. The spacious showspace was a perfect backdrop for various paintings from his repertoire including his flower balls, stacked skulls, self-portraits and more.  Stop by before it closes on February 9th if you want to see the work up close and personal. Matthew Feyld – ‘Untitled (197 Drawings)’ @ Nowhere Montreal

Matthew Feyld’s new book entitled Untitled (197 Drawings) has just been released by Blackdot Publishing, and to accompany the edition, Nowhere Gallery in Montreal hosted an exhibition under the same untitled title featuring many of the works presented within the book. Matthew’s drawings and paintings have been a point of fascination for us at AM for a while now, and we’ve enjoyed watching the evolution of Feyld’s work. Gone are the figurative and mixed media creations we first associated him with five or so years ago. His draftsman-like qualities have been exchanged […]

Openings: Cyrcle. – “Organized Chaos!” (Los Angeles)

Last night, AM stopped by the private opening of Cyrcle.’s new solo show titled Organized Chaos! Taking place in Los Angeles, this new exhibition by the two-man collective focuses on the central idea of the cube and the way in which bees and flowers relate to society as a whole. It’s interesting to point out that unlike most exhibitions in which art is supposed to hang on a wall, this show actually invites the viewer to interact with the artwork itself. Various pieces are made up of […]

Preview: Joe Sorren – “Everything’s Alright Sweetie, Please Get Some Sleep” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

For nearly two decades, the name Joe Sorren has been synonymous with an ability to create a story of endless interpretation within his works. If you have been following the surrealism painters of the modern age, then you certainly know the name and the work. But who is Joe Sorren? The man behind the art has remained somewhat of an enigma. He is seclusive perhaps borderline reclusive, especially in regards to his sanctuary of creation. Sorren firmly believes his art should speak without having to speak […]
