Last week, Kris Lewis (interviewed) returned (see 2011 & 2009) for a new showing at the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver. The exhibition included a series of paintings featuring his exquisite portraiture which shows the California-based artist’s reverence for the old masters as well as his technical prowess. Add to that a gift for the emotive touch as well as creating works that really connect with the viewer and you have something special. KAWS x MTA wraparounds

Readers in New York should keep on the lookout for special trains decked out in KAWS imagery leading up to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. If you remember, the NY-based artist will have his Companion character realized as a 40-foot-long balloon for the parade and now has designed a matching look for the MTA Times Square Shuttle (3 whole cars inside and out). Later tonight at the Roq La Rue Gallery in Seattle, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be unveiling all new paintings alongside works from John Brophy. Opening: SSUR – “From The Cradle To The Grave” @ Scion A/V Installation

Last week, the Scion A/V Installation hosted the opening of New York streetwear label SSUR’s (brainchild of Ruslan Karablin) exhibition From The Cradle To The Grave. Like all shows at the newly opened space in Melrose, limited edition goods were produced specifically for the event to go along with the display of original art. The show runs through December 1st. Later this month, sculptor Kate MccGwire returns to All Visual Arts in her home city of London (see 2011) for a new solo show entitled Lure – “a dual reference to the ring of feathers used by a falconer to call and command their birds, and to the siren-like call of the work itself.” Creating non-conventional sculptural works with her material of choice – iridescent feathers – MccGwire is able to shape the plumage into undulating and seductive structures.
