Video: Raymond Pettibon x Red Hot Chilli Peppers – “Monarchy of Roses” Music Video

Two legends of the Los Angeles music and art scene: the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Raymond Pettibon (who is a musician in his own right and the brother of Greg Ginn – the founder of Black Flag) come together in this music video made on occasion of the band’s new record. Directed by Marc Klasfeld, the video features the artist’s highly recognizable drawings. If you’ve ever wondered how Pettibon’s work would look animated, stop imagining and start watching. Last weekend, the non-profit Luggage Store Gallery held a benefit auction to support their efforts in programming future exhibitions, Tenderloin National Forest, public art programs, artist in residency as well as the Short Cuts and The Creative Music Series. Events: Editions|Artists’ Book Fair

A couple weekends ago in Chelsea, we attended this year’s Editions|Artists’ Book Fair, which brought together contemporary fine art print and art book publishers and dealers from around the world. Looks like Urban Outfitters is at it again. This time, they are selling a very familiar looking dog figure that looks like one originally created by one of the biggest names in contemporary art. Neither are strangers to lawsuits, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Next Thursday, November 17th (6-8pm), the Paul Kasmin gallery will be presenting a gold set of Ai Weiwei’s bronze sculptures, Zodiac Heads, to the public. Other larger renditions of the twelve animal heads, each depicting a part of the Chinese zodiac, have already been shown at the Pulitzer Fountain (Central Park) in New York and the LACMA in Los Angeles, but this showing will be accompanied by a book launch. The other night, we attended a great event held at the Wooster St. Social Club for Aidan Has A Posse, a website raising funds for and awareness about Aidan Seeger. Aidan is a young boy who has Adrenoleukodystrophy   (ALD), a rare neurological disorder. Events: James Jarvis Book Release @ The Standard Shop NYC

Tonight, at The Standard Shop, NYC, acclaimed British illustrator James Jarvis will unveil his first new narrative in five years, De Profundis, with a public signing event from 6-8pm. Accompanying the book’s release, The Standard Shop has organized an exhibition of Jarvis’ work – including original works for sale – complete with an original site-specific piece on the Shop’s windows from November 10th through December 8th.
