Preview: “Love Conquers All” @ Thinkspace Gallery

This Saturday night, August 7th, Thinkspace Gallery will be hosting “Love Conquers All”, a group show supporting the LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender) struggle with 20% of the proceeds donated to Equality California. Looking through the preview, there really are some pretty strong pieces in this show from many of the artists that we cover here on AM. Video: Anish Kapoor @ Guggenheim (Bilbao)

Renowned sculptor Anish Kapoor is currently showing at the Guggenheim in Bilbao, the first large-scale survey of the artist’s work to be seen in Spain. In a fascinating series of videos, Kapoor gives a tour of each of the major pieces in the exhibition. Preview: Dalek – “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason” @ Hurley )( SPACE

A pretty interesting event is taking place this Wednesday night at the Hurley Space (7-10pm at 1945 Placentia Ave., Costa Mesa, CA) down in Orange County. James Marshall (Dalek) (interviewed) will be exhibiting his 37-foot continuous wall mural, “Chaos on the Edge of Reason”, with the kicker being that pieces of the painting will be cut out and framed on demand for attendees to take home at $200 per square feet (2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 feet). Last night, AM attended the crowded opening of the Sea No Evil art show and charity auction. The group show hosted great works from many notables such as Shepard Fairey, Clayton Brothers, Dave Kinsey, Gary Baseman, Mark Dean Veca, Audrey Kawasaki, Amy Sol, Joe Ledbetter, Lola, Travis Louie and Kozyndan. Takashi Murakami x Casio G-Shock Frogman

Superflat master Takashi Murakami has created an eye-popping G-Shock “Frogman” watch with Casio. The cool collaboration features his trademark “Flower” emblem etched on the black metal casing and the strap features his signature on the front. The watch comes in a specially packaged and designed watch pillow also featuring his artwork. This collaboration will be limited to 300 and will be released on September 11th later this year. Openings: M-City & Boogie @ Carmichael Gallery

Carmichael Gallery recently opened two shows at their Culver City gallery and although the artists use different mediums and subject matter, their work is both deeply rooted in the streets. M-City’s work was both mechanical in appearance and in physical attributes.  It included works that included levers and pulleys. The machine-like works contained images of M-City’s futuristic black and white industrial factories and buildings that contain no signs of human life. Boogie’s work, in contrast, was all about the city and the people within it.  […]
