Preview: Beyond Baby Tattooville

Had the opportunity to check out the “Beyond Baby Tattooville” exhibit at the Riverside Art Museum a couple weeks back. Strangely enough, opening night is on Oct 4th to coincide with the weekend of Baby Tattooville, but the work was put up for public viewing on Sept 4th. The Merry Karnowsky Gallery in LA will be hosting a fundraising event the evening of Oct. 1 to benefit Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. Masakatsu Sashie‘s show “Under Fluorescent Light” opened last Saturday at GR2 on the west side. As usual, his detailed spheres encompassing urban elements (buildings, vending machines, air conditioners, television sets) were quite eye-catching. It’s as if his so-called “orb paintings” shrunk the ingredients of city living into a compact package for consumption.
